That's the bad thing about doing engine work in a hurry, You tend to miss things.
Are you missing any sockets

I did wonder if my daughter posted something down the camchain valley whilst I was not looking

It has happend before. I had a BMW R75/5 with staintune mufflers. One developed a rattle like a broken baffle so I sent them back to Staintune for a warranty repair, they call me and asked If I was missing a 6'' 3/8 drive socket extension, I said actually I have just been looking for it, cost me $90 to get it back

A mate did that with his car, He had changed the head gasket and left a nut and washer in one cylinder and a socket in another.
Needles to say the engine rattled a bit more than it used to.
