I could give mine a measure and let you know dimensions if you like.

RE water crossings - have submarined mine with the same setup and it predictably stopped. Talking a very wet sploosh, not a retrieve-bike-with-scuba. No lasting ill effects - just drained half a cup of water from the airbox drain and hit the button.

I thought the new bergs had there air filters where the tank normally goes a bit like the photo above of Glens.

Water crossings shouldn't be a problem as the intake would be as high or higher than most dirt bikes

Thanks mate it would be handy if you could measure it when you get a chance, is it foam or paper?

From the photos it looks like it is quiet round a stocky instead of long and thin.
I want the air box to run along the top of the rear tank/subframe with the tank forming the bottom of the air box with the filter and then the seat will be the top of the air box and snorkel.

It hard to describe how I'm thinking of building the bike.

That's a good idea Will

Sorry I haven't finished your swing arm, I'm painting a jet ski in the garage so I can do any steel work at the moment.
I was suposed to have the ski done last week but i stuffed up and had to start again so its still taking up valuable garage space.

That was a good little ride Phil put on not to easy but not to hard.

Hey Joe the 70 degree Bergs may have what you are after with filter and airbox able to be modded to suit your needs.

Yeah it's not particularly thin... foam though. I use the twin things with two layers. Rough dimensions are 215L x 170W x 70H. Hope that helps.

cheers fellas.
I have few designs and idea's stored away for the airbox and filter now

The photos of the berg have given me more ideas for the frame.

I'm trying to design the frame round the engine, carbs, airbox and suspension and its harder than you might think to get everything to fit and work well without making compromises.

I've ruled out a single back bone frame like I was using because I have to make to many compromises and I cant use a lattice frame like the 690 because it will be to wide where it goes round the cylinder head so I was planing a cross between the two.
Now I'm thinking I could do frame like the berg but make it a little deeper and out of lattice instead.

Any ideas and suggestions you guys have are welcome

Need to get all my components together and mounted on a beam in there correct place first and the hopefully the frame will be easy to work out.

easy i tel ya easy

just a few bits to add and it finished

Uh there has been one step forward but many many steps back.

Not a lot of dr650 left

But moving the engine into the living room is providing plenty of inspiration

Need to buy a rear shock before I start the frame, Just waiting for my funds to catch up to my plans.

I can't believe I just read this whole thread. Sitting on the train gives a fella some free time. You have done some great work on this project, I am afraid I would have binned after the 2nd blowup.

If you are looking for frame ideas check out the eurospares site. Micheal Moore has thousands of frame pictures both road racing and offroad. It is mostly vintage racing stuff, but some of that was pretty stiff and light. BTW he is a GS500 guy too. His email list on frame design was very good too. (It still may good, I have not been there for many years.)

Thanks for your coments mate.
Ive been lurking on that mailing list for a few months now and it's a great source of info.
I've bought a few bike design books as well so I've been busy learning.

Its books before grinder with this new frame.

I'm looking for a new shed and once I'm all set up I'll be building a jig and starting on the frame.

Thanks again

Joe
