Mezo.
i cant imagine why changing the rear section would be legally affected.
i'm all for chopping it off & ending up with no rear droop. i've had an idea for a while to change the look of the rear without modifying the frame, but its still a few projects away.

i'm gona take a grinder and cut the subframe off where it meets the main frame and then weld on some mounting lugs for the alloy frame.

bike's and cars only get inspected if they are sold, run out of rego or if you get pulled by the cops and told your vehicle is defect.

how many police will know that the dr's subframe is suposed to be steel and how many inspectors would care as long as its done properly.

i'm more woried about the lights and fairing being turned down by an inspector.

yes i'm a pom/scot who is now living in aus and i'm loving it.

news on the fairing.

I might use a fairing like this one there's a guy in Australia selling them for $275+shipping.

I'm not thrilled by the idea of buying a fairing and the having to completely change it not when i could just make my own but it would look good and it will save a lot of time and messing about.
A friend is buying one for his ktm690 so when it get's here we'll try it on the dr.

Eek Holy crap!!!

Is the fairing gonna be independent from the steering?
Its gonna look smart! Your right, the cops this side wouldn't know the difference in subframe material either! whack it on lets see.......

More pics... Please!

yes it's going to be independent of the steering that's the whole point of all the work that i have done so far on the light bracket.

DrJoe, I think you're spot on with the rego inspectors I was thinking about attaching the KTM 300 subframe to the DR but it looks like too much work for me and my backyard. It would lighten the load though! hmmm. maybe I should keep it just in case... My project is on hold for a week or so... the cylinder head on my Defender cracked and I'm dealing with that at the mo...

Nice build so far mate... should hook up for a ride in the future.

I've got a non titanium muffler if you decide to do the GIXER mod. Same as TIT but heavier. You can lend it if ya want to get the shae for a mid pipe right.

I have been working 200m from his factory door for six months ? ironic eh, will have to have a nosey in the factory next time im passing.

Be interesting to see how how close that is when chopped Joe, only a minimal fibreglass jobbie needed.

May be worth dropping my frame down his factory along with a Safari tank & see if he would be intrested in making a proper off the shelf product for all us DR/KTM safari wannabies, im sure theres a market for them around the world.
