Mmmmm tasty
I can tell ya right now set aside at least 2k to rebuild that motor. Your going to be tearing it down to every last bolt. Hopefully your not missing too many parts there. Id bet your upper fork tubes are junk, rusted up but good. So youll be rebuilding those and replacing lots of parts. Lowers are probably fine. If nothing else its worth way more than the asking price parted out. |

I went for a road ride yesterday. Ended up way north at this guys house that literly has hundreds of bikes.
Said that he knows the American Pickers guys from before they had there show. Said they had been to his place and he had to beat them off with a stick to keep them away from his cycle stash. Well there was a fella there that had a 69 Triumph that he had 7 years into its restoration. It was beautiful. I could tell he had the sickness as he was staring at some fastner complaining that it wasnt the right one and it was driving him insane. We got to talking about polishing aluminum and we both smiled when I mentioned sitting in front of the tv for hours sanding the pits out of the parts as he had been there too.

Thanks for the info and thoughts. I'm starting to think I would seriously be in over my head with just a bunch of parts. The photos of your trip inspired me to wait for a complete bike to tear down and fix up. I'm sure I'll run across another deal in the future. Thanks for your play-by-play on your rebuild, very inspiring. Post an up to date piture if you can.

Spotted something pretty cool today and had to share.
Was at the local motorcycle clubgrounds for the amature hill climbs and dirt drags. And this was there to do an exibition run at the dirt drags. Not really sure what it was built to do. Not sure if dirt dragging is it. Not sure if it was intended to do anything well. But it was cool none the less. Ane the 2 old fossils that owned it were the real deal. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Click on the image below for a little video

Like YZ says, there gotta be %150 in parts there.... but sometime dollars and cents doesn't need to enter the equation. Looks spendy.

Yep...thanks for the reminder. Its sitting right next to me in the living room as a constant reminder to get working on it again.
Boys YZ125 spit out the tranny so that is getting split open again. Truck just got lower ball joints, rotors, pads, and shocks. Next is getting new upper arms/ball joints, exhaust, front end alignment and probably a new tire. Then...maybe.... Ill have some cash to throw back at the BSA project. That and next weekend is probably the last for dirtbiking so that wont be consuming all my time and money for a while. Things will start happening soon. Dont worry. Sorry for the lack of headway. |
