Yes, but it took a 2-smoke to get there (at least it was a KTM)! That hill looks a lot steeper when your going up it on a 990, I could have sworn was a mile long!

Hanging out with the folks in Cranbrook for the past week. Had a chance to do a bit of riding:
Still life with motorbike… ;-) the Balsam Roots were blooming all over the place. Truly amazing: ![]() Rockies east of Cranbrook: ![]() Country roads…. Take me home…. ![]() Well, I guess this is where I'm supposed to go: ![]() But this looks a whole lot more interesting (Sign says "No Road"): ![]() You'll never guess which way I went. An old homestead: The old Mayook School House. Now restored an used as a community centre:

Sweet pics. I would love to ride the Cranbrook area someday. I lived there for part of a hockey season in the mid 1990's and always thought the dirt roads around town were calling to me...

McLean on Sunday?
Looks like this Thursday night's ride will be a wash-out at McLean, but anybody up for a rip there on Sunday (supposed to be sunny and a high of 26 then)?

It might be REAL slippery going down the north side if we don't get some really nice weather. A novice/intermidiate rider on a real off road bike with full knobbies would find it challanging to hard in difficulty. There were still snow patches. We were up there on Sunday going north to south and a rider who races intermdiate couldn't make it up one streach without all of us pushing. My bike (KTM 250 xc-w) go pushed/lifted a lot more than his. So we were headed up the difficult streach, and you will probably go down that streach. We also went down that way and there were some pucker moments, but no incidents. Lots of wet rocks, roots, clay under loam type riding. The rest of the loop is great though, especially on the way down. Really fun single track. If you do the loop south to north I would walk that hill (say .5 km north of the top view point) to see if it is OK. The worst section is the lower "step". The thing is that once you go down the first part you are committed to the rest of the loop unless you want a serious workout. If you go north to Quark and do it as an in and out, rather than a loop, you should have alot of fun.
