It's been toooooo long since an update! I might have to actually learn Complex Variables rather than drool over your project bike!

Keep up the good work,

Sorry for the lack of updates. I've got other bikes, other interests, a job(graveyard) and all kinds of stuff going on. Big trip coming up in a week.

I've been making little things like gussets and blinker mounts. Straightened the bars off the 500. I'm working with two beat up bikes here so some of the work is tedious and boring. Lacing wheels and doing some welding on the Bandit this weekend. I'll give you all a few pics on Sunday if anything interesting gets done.

Thanks for the interest.

Ok, I do something on the Bandit every day..it may not be much, but I'm working on it.

I repaired the stock CR500 bars, a press fixed the cross bar and a table bolted to the floor with a big vice and soft jaws together with a 2500 pound overhead crane and I go the bars within a 1/16 of perfect...they were over 3/4" off.

I cut apart the Bandit upper triple and made some bar risers. i think this is about as tall as I can go and use the stock cables.

I carved the key assembly out too. I made a mounting plate, trim to fit later.

I'll probably weld it in behind this part of the frame:

I made some parts to smooth the outside of the graft..extra beefy 1/2" plate.

I picked up a few bits at Cycle Gear, chain roller and some grips. I need to order a few more things, but I'll be out of town for awhile and don't like stuff sitting on the porch all day.

Update in a few weeks.

I really should be sleeping or getting ready to go on the latest trip, but take a look at this pile of crap that isn't going back on the bike.

Final paint is done. Matt is going to come over to wet sand and buff it out. Hard to do motorcycle parts on a bench.

He even snuck a skull into it.

I'll get back to work on it as soon as I'm done with the Stelvio ride report...I've ridden close to 5,000 miles in the last few weeks.

Matt came over and finished up the paint work.

It turned out cool as heck!!

Some dirty hippy was working on his KLR.

Have to tear the Bandit apart again. Final welding and smoothing next. Need to put in steering head bearings and races. My plan is to finish everything and leave the jackshaft until the end..might need to see a machinist for that part..will be better if I have a rolling machine if I need to take it to somebody.

Watchin' for DS Bandit's 1st ride.
