I just won a van on ebay. 1992 E-350 with 80,000 original miles. Paid a little more than i was planning on, but it's a newer van than what i had been thinking of (still old) and has everything that was on my check-list:
  • Extended body window van
  • 4x4 (by Advanced 4x4 in Salt Lake)
  • 4-speed O.D. transmission
  • 5.8 V8
  • Interior height over 6' (this one is 6'4"-6'5")
  • Double side doors

It's huge! The neighbors are just going to love having this thing parked out front, lol!

Now it's time to get busy camper-izing it! Should be a fun project as long as i can find the time. The good news is it's already 4x4 and high-top so all i have to do is make a bed platform and i can start using it immediately. Then improve as i go.

That's a great van Troy! Really the only thing better than a 4xVan weighs 60 tonnes and has tracks. Unstoppable. Congrats and let's see the mods when you get to them.

I been eyeballin' something like that for a while. With the 4x4 how cool can it get. It's got way too much windows for my liking, but that's the way they do it these days.. Just wonderin' what you plan on doing for window coverings, just curtains, or perhaps extremely dark tint?

I wonder if he couldn't get a one-way coating to cover the windows -- kind of give it a cargo van appearance while still allowing the driver to see out?

Maybe the same type of vinyl they use for those gaudy vehicle wraps, but in a solid gray to match the exterior paint:

Anyone see something like that used before on a toy hauling passenger van?

There are lots of places that will do van wraps, but they are a few thousand dollars. Cool, because you can just about anything done... Think about a nice fractal camo job that would let you boondock in just about any offroad setting easy. Problem is the cost.

If it was my van, I'd probably go with a 70s style mirror tint job.... Certainly cheaper.

it corners fine for what it is. Even though it's very tall, there's not much weight up high.

As far as the windows, that is what i wanted. My westy had windows all the way around except where they were blocked by cabinets, and this will be the same. I'll add some sort of curtains. But i really like the 360 degree visibility when inside, and the brightness.

Many people prefer to use a cargo van as the base for a camper build, and only add a couple windows. To each his own. Those feel very dark and claustrophobic in my opinion.
