Think lots of alternating 6" white/metalic powder blue/metalic medium blue stripes with dark blue pin stripes between. Raised fiberglass roof, ladder on the right rear door, but no roof rack (ladder to knowhere!). KC Highlighters (smaller than Daylighters) on the front bumper for night driving through Indian reservations. Drove like a floaty tank.

Those are still my favorite. My Dad had several of those, and one of his best freinds had one with the "boogie man" painted down the side. One of ours looked alot like this, actually...

A bunch of us guys got 65 ford econolines when I was going to school becuase that's what the phone company was getting rid of. 'Cept I got one of the 1/4 ton pickups. We were getting 'em to carry our surfboards to the beach and I thought the pick up would be better and different. Then I found out that the vans could do double duty as a place to neck with your sweetie. Man I was such a dork-o-potomus. So I traded the pick up for a VW bug with a rack on top. That didn't work any better but it was cheaper to keep running.

When I was a kid we had a early 70's VW (oranage and white), dad tried to rig up an auxilary heater. I remember it was always cold, and it broke down alot. I think the slider popped off a few times too.
We were more staition wagon people, at one point my parents had matching Caprice wagons.
