Ford Full Size Transit Van Update

So googling around waiting for info on Ford's new full size transit van, I come up on this:

http://www.autoblog.com/2012/03/05/f...will-be-offer/

I was REALLY hoping that Ford would bring a diesel here in this van but it looks like they are stuck on the ecoboost v-6. Thats really a shame in my opinion because Mercedes has pretty much knocked it out of the park with the Sprinters and to not even compete with them seems like a really big mistake. Oh well.....at least now I know that instead of holding out for the new transit I can go ahead and jump on a nice used Sprinter when I find the one I want.

Got a special van in my life.

The boyfriend and I purchased it together, like getting a baby or some shit. And, like a lot of families, he soon regretted having the baby, but I still coddle and swaddle it daily (not that it's needed much work, mechanically.) A guy on Craigslist was selling it for $1000 - I squawked and flapped until he gave it up for $850. What a bargain!

It's a '95 E-350 Club Wagon (SW title, bitches) - we use it to do carnie shit like camping and dog shows. It's cool as hell.

It only has a 300 in it, but it happily pulls the motorbike trailer.

It's a slow, lumbering thing, and gets horrid gas mileage, but whatever.

I named it "Vanzig."

RV plates

My buddy got RV plates for his Toyota Van . Anybody try this ? We're in IL , maybe its different elsewhere . His insurance is $280 a year , seems cheap.

Full coverage on my 2003 E350 is only like $330/year.

I have a full blown sportsmobile E350 super duty. My insurance on part time RV use is about $350 a year. A lot of the price has to do with the initial cost of the thing.

It's named after the little guy with the big voice.

And I have loved more than one briefcase Ford in my day. Heartbreakers.

(And not in a bad way.)

RV classification will make insurance super cheap, but it's not that easy to get. Depending on the state will depend on the requirements, but it's something like "Water/Toilet/Heat/Cooking" all available inside the vehicle.

Thats what I thought , but he only has a folding seat and I guess that was good enough.

re: RV classification insurance.

The risk is that the minute one has an accident and actually needs insurance coverage the insurance company is going to do their best to show the owner has used the van for purposes other than those that an RV policy insures and deny the claims (assuming it is not only used as an RV).

Kind of defeats the point of having insurance (especially if someone is hurt and one is found liable; i.e. big bucks).

I'd rather pay the extra and know my insurance is going to back me when I need it... but to each their own.

I agree , the reason I would do it is because I have a van that has a bed and table and can be used for camping , plus , I dont drive it everyday . Just thought it would be a good way to save money .
