I'm a photographer and I love unusual perspectives so I often rent cherry pickers for shoots and one day, long, long ago I stumbled onto the ebay listing for this van in the "already sold" category. To make a long story short I spent many years tracking it down from owner to owner, from WV to OH to MO and finally bought it in MO. Tried to drive it home to NY and blew the motor in IA and eventually had it towed to NY where it's spent the last couple years having a Cummins 6BT installed. We're going to do a new rear end (to get the revs down) and hopefully I get it back this summer where I can get the hydraulics rebuilt and begin the conversion to a small, self-contained camper, photo studio, office and most likely home if my wife ever finds out how much all this is costing. Kidding! I think...

Anyway, here's my van.

That looks like a VersaLift boom.
Had to slide down one of those twice. Highly recommend you have a VersaLift tech check it out before hauling ass.
It has a lot of moving parts.

I saw a clip within the last few months about this vehicle. They are for sale to the public. There's this six wheeler & 4 wheeled version using the same high flotation tires.

Nice boom van sakurama.

I almost got one that was mounted in a e350 for the same reason.
Was pretty close to bidding on it until I found a converted 4x ambulance instead.

Picked up a new toy today for my VW Syncro Westfalia.....a 250HP Subaru H6! Starting the process of collecting parts etc, should be starting the engine swap soon.

I was going to install a 2.5L Subaru but made the mistake of driving my friends H6 powered Westie...WOW.

What else to deliver the new H6 with than another H6 powered Vanagon!

And the engine awaiting the conversion....

Colin is an aircooled Genius. I haven't been following his blog/site for a while because my bus is on hiatus while I accumulate funds for it.

Good luck with the tune!

VanAgain

1 yr of wanting, followed by 6 Months of looking ended with THIS...

2001. 5.7, 3.42 "locking" diff, Tow Package, and 9-yards worth of other options. Damn near EXACTLY want I wanted.
Didn't care about Brand. I've owned all of the Big 3, and they all have their +/-'s. Actually would have liked a MO Emissions Exempt example (Over 8500lb GVW or pre-'96) but the 3/4 tons all had lower gearing, and every '95-and-older one I looked at was not in as good a shape as I would have liked. Not to mention the fact that these type of vans are HARD to find! Seems like "Conversion Vans" have taken all the customers away from the Passenger market. And I didn't want an Extended van, so that excluded most of the Passenger Vans out there.

It's a good "10 Footer"

140,000mi. $4700. Needs almost nothing.
Needs a windshield to pass inspection (crack "in the field of vision"), getting that tomorrow. $230.
A few little things. Handles for most of the reclining seats need replaced (known problem w/ these). Some cosmetic issues that I don't really care about, but should be attended to to keep it looking presentable. Runs sweet, but I'll give it a tune-up & new plug wires anyway. PO was a Gearhead (2-1/2 & 5-ton Army trucks, rock-crawler jeep, 4-wheelers, etc, etc.) and seemed to take good care of his stuff, but wasn't much for Record-Keeping ("If I can't remember when I did it last, I just do it anyway!").
3-4000 miles on the BFG's. Underside showroom clean. Exhaust good. Oil/Trans fluid liked good. Front end tighter than teenage..... whatever. I just got Good Vibes all around on this one.

Has the twin drop-down screens in the roof w/ jacks in the rear sidewall to plug in gaming devices or a portable DVD player, w/ headphones out, so the PO put a small home DVD player in the console. He left it casual, because he wanted to be able to switch it from vehicle-to vehicle easily. But I'll probably Neat Up the wiring.
The PO's wife came out after the Deal was done, to give it one last go-through for personal items. She was annoyed that he had thrown in the DVD player to close the deal. But she was nice enough to go in and dig out the Owners Manuals for both the Van and the DVD. Seems she was the organized one in the family.

I Love how the Chevy seats work. Quick-release mounts.

I'll probably change the seating by moving up the bench to the 2nd row, stash the buckets in the basement, leaving the rear third for Stuff.

Looks like built-in Factory tie-downs to me.
"But Honey, I had to buy that dirt-bike to test the strap mounting points!"
