Trucking the first load of stuff to the new digs in ID on Thursday. Given the "blizzard" we're getting Tuesday (we'll see how much we actually get) I decided to get a jump on loading the beast.

Just the bikes (gas and human powered) loaded:

After an hour or so of piecing together the puzzle of crap I need to get there:

Yup, that was me and crew on our way back from maiden voyage / river trip. Was that you on the 950s? If so nice to put a face to a name...! I

Photo of the maiden voyage. Van is nowhere near done, but I do finally have the bed almost ready (fabricated out of steel / can fold up). Van did phenomenal and got 16 mpg on the whole trip. It has 4.10s and those 31.8" diameter 235 85 R 16 tires I mentioned earlier. Tires Ttok about 100-200 miles to break in before some light wandering I had completely went away. I hear this common with Coopers, not sure if its common maybe with the size. Completely ecstatic with the performance of the 235 85R 16 size. Running 60 psi front 80 psi rear. Might be slight overkill in the rear and will lightly air down. Van has such good suspension that even on rough roads it wasn't overly jarring... Not too stiff not too soft...

Drove about about 65-70 for the most part on the freeways. Had a stiff wind coming back but still managed the good mileage, at about 2100-2200 rpms on average. I wish I could get a little faster and I'm trying to figure out if gearing up to 3.73 will help it with its mileage. It will go faster but the noise is a little higher from the engine and I know 1800-1900 is its sweet spot. Not sure if I'm over analyizing or not...

Calculator says that 3.73s and these tires will put at 1800-1900 rpms and I figure that will help? And I know that the 2" lift (still not installed) will hurt the mileage, not sure how much. Would love your thoughts from fellow Ford diesel owners...

Truck was great and just a complete trooper. Trip was 2 dudes in the truck and gear for a 4 day river trip for another 8 dudes. So a lot of stuff! Photos of are my friend Adele's ranch up in Castle Valley where we crashed one evening after a serious game of Bocci.

The sticker on the rear reads Hayduke Lives. It's mostly so everyone knows that Hayduke is still alive, despite that he is posting here regularly...

cheers, Andre

Andre,

Nope, not me on the 950s but I have one. I saw the guy I think you are talking about. On one hand I wish I was there on the big bike, but on the other I was happy to be taking the fam on the maiden voyage of our new camper. Required van content...E350 pulled the little trailer without the slightest blink. Back was full of gear and bicycles (no motos on this trip).

Sick Pilo... Yeah I talked to that guy briefly, super nice guy and definitely on this board. If I remember correctly he said he and the bike are from Denver, he just bought it / maiden voyage. Seemed like he rode some gnarly ass **** on his way there, pretty awesome! Man I would love to have a 950 S -- some day!

Can anyone recommend a ladder for my 2012 E350? The cheap ass one I got off amazon that is supposed to fit isn't even close. I mean, not even clooooooose. Once hooked over the top of the door, the bottom mounting brackets are about six inches away from the door. It was only 50 bucks, so I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, but I still feel ripped off.

I love the Tradesmans. Had one for a while that ran great. About 23 years ago I knew a guy that had a nice custom Tradesman with a 440 6-pack and 4:56 gears. 'Twas awesome.
