A friend of mine from MN is looking and sent me this interesting specimen from Unicell .

Seems pricey for the miles but would make a cool bike hauler

After shopping all spring I picked up this 2000 GM Express long wheel base passenger van with a 5.7 V8 and 118K on the clock. I pulled the seats and side panels, stuffed insulation in the latter, and laid a 3/4 inch plywood floor topped with 3/4 stall mats. Built a full size platform bed with storage for all our riding and camping gear beneath: 7 gals of water, cooler, dry storage, camp chairs and table, elaborate cook kit, camp shovel and axe, sun canopy and everything else. With all the insulation it rides very quiet--hope it has good thermal insulation qualities as well.

Bikes stay on the trailer.

This van has been hauling the artist Larry Poons to the races for well over a decade. I commented that it was becoming art itself. He smiled and said like a painting , when it looks as natural as a tree then it's prefect.
He also said it runs better than ever.

I have been lurking for the better part of a year now and figured I should finally post up. Thankfully one of the few sites that get through the web filters at work.

Really diggin this van thread despite not being able to see the majority of the pictures (blocked for bandwidth preservation). Even convinced the other half we need one as an extra vehicle. Now it’s just the matter of finding one.

I saw it asked a few times without much response, but how do the AWD vans stand up? As much as I like them, the majority of the converted 4x4s are well out of my price range. I need to be able to get through much of the sand/gravel/mud on the adventure to my adventures and hoping AWD will be the cost effective (read cheap) answer.

http://losangeles.craigslist.org/lgb/ctd/1878513762.html is a good start to what I am looking for, just want it about $1500 less. Need to save room for the mural fund and farkles for the inside. General opinions on the Astro/Safari AWD would be awesome.

Anything I am missing in my searches? So far have been looking at econolines and the chevy/gmc offerings pre 2005. Most of the links in this thread are blocked for me right now, and I would like a solid idea of what I want by the time I get back home.

Thanks a lot YFF!

We did camp in the van for the first time last weekend, over in Taylor Park. I loved having so much room! Especially with the gigantic Easy-Up.

I gotta get some windows in this thing though. It's so dark sleeping in the back, I could sleep all day.
