Ok so I just bought a GTX 660 to replace my 8800...
. I haven't bought parts other than new hard drives for about 5 years since I moved to all Macs, but this new GPU should give me another couple of years with the Mac Pro as an effective gaming machine. Not the best in the world, but not too shabby!

Yeah I had about seven PCs in my house for various things from 2000 to 2008. I used to buy RAM, video cards, motherboards, and all sorts of stuff every few months, to upgrade one or the other computer. I used to overclock, mod my cases and started putting together a watercooling rig. I remember using a graphite pencil to connect some jumpers on an AMD CPU back in 2000 to overclock it a couple of hundred MHz. Those were the days!
![]() I moved to a Mac Pro and a MacBook Air as my only two computers (with an Apple TV in the living room) and the only thing I've upgraded since January 2008 was to put a SSD in my Air and to upgrade HDDs every so often in the Mac Pro. I feel like I'm trying to relive the glory days of my PC building by buying this video card.

Well, I have been able to play the Simcity Beta some this morning, and unless they change something with the graphics in the next two weeks my card will be fine. I turned everything up to "ultra" in the graphics settings and the game played fie to me. That is great news for me, this is pretty much the only game I will be playing on PC, so I do not really want to upgrade my video card right now.
Oh, the game... Yeah, its fun! Looks like they took a lot of the good from the older ones, and left out a lot of the tedious. There is a lot of new stuff as well, but since it is a beta a lot is locked out, non playable. Either way, from the 30 minutes I have played so far I know I will swing buy Wal-Mart to pick it up on March 5. |

I haven't played a SimCity since SimCity Societies back in 2008, so I may get a copy of SimCity 4 or something to tide me over until March. I didn't get an email for the beta, so apparently I'm not the person they're looking for.

Now that I have a new GPU, I need to find some games to tax my system. I haven't played many games on my computer in the past few years. Most of my gaming is on my XBox or iPad. A couple of months ago I went through a few weeks' phase of playing Rise of Nations, which I used to spend hours on about ten years ago.
I have Civ 4, so maybe I should try Civ 5.

Metal Gear Solid and Gran Turismo to me are platform drivers. I have always bought the next gen Sony when these games come out. I wait until then. I still play these yrs later.
For computers - Commmand and Conquer series, etc... these strategy games are far better there imo than action oriented games that are better supported by Xbox and PS.

I may look at Total War - I used to play strategy games all the time on my computers, because they seemed much better suited for mouse controls. I play shooters, RPGs and sports games on my XBox.

Hmmm...I was just wondering, on these war games do you ever get to go on RnR to party, get laid and tattoos?
