For all the replies. The good news is, I had already figured out 90% of what ya'll told me on my own. The bad news is, I had already figured out 90% of what ya'll told me on my own and still suck.

I was set up with the peace keeper with quick draw, fmj, and target finder add ons. I don't even carry a second gun. I've quit trying to pick up second guns as well as it seemed to always get me killed trying to use them. I changed up my perks based on what was recommended. The engineer perk is great. I still use scavenger as I seem to unload a lot of shots per kill, and need to be able to get the extra ammo.
I've been playing custom games with twice as many opposing bots as teammate bots, and managed to double my kill/death ratio tonight taking all the advice. Another few days of this, and I may be ready to play online with my boy and his pre teen friends.

The toughness perk will help you a ton on missing shots on non hardcore game modes. It keeps you on aim while you are being shot.

FMJ does not actually increase damage except through walls.

My peacekeeper class on non hardcore is:

Silencer and any sight you want to put on it

First perks: Ghost, and hardline
Second Perk: Toughness and Scavenger
Third Perk: Extreme Conditioning

The SMR is a hell of a gun on non hardcore games. Really powerful, and with select fire it is a deadly gun.

This is the only gun I run 3 perks on. Red dot sight, select fire, and a silencer. Played TDM last night with this set up, and in 10 or so games I called in 3 VTOL warships.

The SMR is really aggravating to use in the beginning though, you will die a lot with it. Stick it out and get the attachments, it will pay off.

That's one of the single-shot assault rifles, right? I am working on the FAL right now, and although powerful, I am not used to treating it more like a sniper rifle. However, I play mostly hardcore kill-confirmed, and I am pretty good at getting the first shot on target, so getting kills hasn't been that hard. Getting headshots however is taking a long time.

What does suck... I have been playing CoD since MW2 on the xbox, and my K/D is still only 0.8 or so. Thankfully, I don't care I play games to have fun, and I have fun most every match. Even the match last night where I went 8 and 26

Hardcore is hard to keep a high k/d ratio unless you camp a ton. If you are trying to get your head shots to gold out your gun, hardcore is also a difficult game mode to do it.

A lot of my head shots I get playing standard mode and come from gun bounce from when a player shoots me the gun will bounce and I will hit him in the head

Yeah the SMR is the other single shot. The FAL is deadly too, and is actually more accurate and has a higher firing rate than the SMR.

If you play a lot of hardcore the SMR will not be better than the FAL. They are both single shot kills on hardcore.

If you want to up your K/D. Get a set of Turtle beaches. My k/d over the past cods was around 2.2 with the Turtle beaches, but mine broke before Black ops 2 came out and I have not replaced them, now it is around 1.8. They help that much.

Plus the game sounds amazing.

On that note, I think I am going to go over to amazon and grab me a new pair.

Oh well, as you said, play the game for fun. I have spent to many hours playing it myself, but it is a good way to get away from thinking about all the other shit I have going on at work.

Oh its definitely fun! I normally go close to a 1:1 ratio in most matches. However, there are games like last night where there are a couple of skilled players doing the spawn trap thing, and, well, you know how it can be.

So, I load up the RPG class and try to blast them away

I don't know why people hate on the rocket launchers so much Such fun to walk around with those on your shoulder

I have the first rocket launcher in the game at gold, the second one needs 4-5 more player controlled killstreaks to be gold, and I have only recently unlocked and started working on the RPG. I need about 50 more kills before working on the rest of the challenges for that one. My goal is to have the diamond rocket launchers

If you are playing hardcore I don't think it is cheap at all to use the launchers. They are slow, and if you get hit first the rocket usually does not go off.

I have my piss the other team off class as well.

I run the M8A1 with a grenade launcher and target finder.
The RPG
C4
First class is Flack Jacket
Second Class Scavenger and Fast Hands
Third Class Tactical Mask

In hardcore mode, you hear a lot of cussing running this class.

The rpg you have to shoot down an aircraft to get the gold. The easiest to shoot down is the escort drone. Just make sure you are running blind eye and cold blooded when you get to that point.

OK, I have done that before, stealth chopper I think is what it was. It is always easy when you don't have to do it though. Then when you need to do it for the challenge it takes weeks. I almost gave up on the second rocket launcher, it took me a month to get an ARC (or whatever the pig with rockets is called) kill.

I played on hardcore mode tonight. For some reason, I find it much easier. My biggest problem was getting lightning strikes for kill streaks and then accidentally killing teammates.

I've been playing COD since Cod4, and I've discovered that I like to play in a more defensive style than is popular with the YouTube video set. But there are some helpful tips to be found there.

Anyway, try this:

MK48 with target finder and fmj. This LMG is a sniper killing wallbanging monster.

B23R. My favorite pistol, and you need a good secondary for tight spaces as the MK48 kinds sucks at hip firing and quick reactions.

Bouncing betty. To defend your ass when holding down a choke point from a head glitch. Even if it doesn't kill the guy coming up behind you'll get a warning. Also good for tossing into random corners and groups of enemies.

Perks:
Flak jacket. To keep from being blown up by the guys who are pissed off at you for killing them 4 times before you have to reload.

Run the Perk 2 Greed wildcard so you can run toughness and scavenger. The scavenger keeps the monster fed, but just as important, lots of betties to toss. Toughness so you can take a couple hits and not have your aim go off.

Engineer. You can see all the enemy devices and avoid them, plus you can roll your care packages to get something better, and boobytrap enemy packages.

Learn the traffic patterns (a key tool for any COD game mode), and use this class to command choke points and overlook flags and hardpoints and mow down the enemy with ease.

Or a more aggressive LMG build, suitable for a more mobile style:

LSAT with quickdraw and laser. Quickdraw helps the LMG come up faster, laser turns it into a hip firing beast. LSAT has excellent iron sights. This gun reminds me a lot of the RPD from MW2, my favorite video game weapon of all time. Except maybe the Barrett .50.

B23R again.

Flack jacket and lightweight. Lightweight gives some much needed speed to this class.

Toughness.

Tactical mask. Immunity to flash and such.

Frag grenade or C4 depending on your mood.

You could do without the pistol on this build and run a flash or concussion grenade.

Play and have fun, and don't get discouraged when you have a bad game. You'll figure out a playing style that works for you and then you'll start to get good results. Try every weapon as you unlock them, you'll know when you find the right one. Learn the maps and the traffic patterns. Learn how the spawns switch. Don't fall into the trap of being predictable. Don't feel that you just have to run right back to where you just died to kill that guy, he'll probably kill you again. Take another route, get behind him and stab him in the back. Don't be afraid to completely switch your weapons and strategy if it's not working at the start of a game, I've had plenty of comebacks from behind by doing just that. All of this is just as important as fast twitch gun skills.

Anyone playing Arma 3 Alpha? There are a lot of 3rd party missions and mods out even though this is an alpha. It runs amazingly smooth for an alpha.

Anybody pick up Defiance yet?

Looks interesting, but I'm finding the lack of reviews disconcerting. 3 days after release there's still no metacritic score, and IGN's review process tags it as lukewarm at best.

No matter. The longer you wait the cheaper it gets.

Had about enough of Sony.
I've owned their shit for years, and it has worked well. But the PS3 seems to be on the far low end of that scale.

I had a first gen PS3 that worked great for 5 1/2 years and my son promptly broke it soon after I gave it to him.
Replaced that with a 160GB model, at just over 2 years old it quit reading discs.

Cleaned the pickup eye, no joy still wouldn't work so it became a Netflix terminal.
Bored as shit here in the hotel 2 weeks ago, so I went and bought another console.

Tried to transfer my data to the new system, and the old one freezes before the menu screen.
Turned the 2 week old console on an hour ago and it freezes before the menu screen.

Fighting the urge to drive over it with my truck.
The PS4 will be out at the end of the year, and it can suck my balls. I won't buy any Sony junk again.
