'Tis true. The 100 bucks is better spent on the GPU

Carry on!

They built the game for NVIDIA Physx which basically means all those great particle effects are done on the GPU for NVIDIA cards but for AMD it has to use the CPU. From the early things I read it slows down the frame rate a decent bit. It looks like there's a mod that helps out now but doesn't always work right.

Meh, Physx and TXAA or whatever nVidia claims their ace in the hole is mostly smoke & mirrors. It runs like hammered crap on anything that isn't powered by a GK110 (meaning a 780 or Titan) or not called 690 (which has a few issues of its own). On GK104 cards they generally need to be turned off, or LoD turned down, or resolution decreased to get a decent framerate.

I'd go with an HD 7950 Boost (equal to the 760, which is actually a rebranded 670) for the decent price and three free games.

It's a bit different than that, it has more cores than the 660, fewer than the 660 Ti/670, they increased the stock clock rate and a few other tweaks for the 7 series in general. It could be based on the 670 though and they just disabled a few cores so it could be the mid level IIRC NVIDIA has done stuff like that before.

I suspect nVidia disabled cores to increase yields, thus availability and decrease price. Anyway, my point about their tricks not working properly on anything but their highest end stands.

In truth, Unreal Engine 3 isn't a heavy drain on resources (anymore), so you can have mid-high end stuff running the thing decently with bells and whistles. It's bespoke engines like Dunia or 4A that tend to demolish performance.

I know you were talking to UNO but I too went RED on this build;

FX8320 CPU (OC @4.5ghz)$139
HD 7950 GPU $183 + 3 games TBD
990FX chipset (Asus) $120

I run Borderlands 2 pretty well. I'll get a frame-rate tonight...
Remember AMD will have Xbox and PlayStation in their corner.
And the 3 games can be chosen between purchase and December 31st...

I'm still running my i7 920 as well. OC'ed to 4.2Ghz so it's not hurting. I'm running dual 560 Ti's though. I think I get about 100-160FPS on B2 with everything 'on' and 'high'. It's optimized nicely.

Just a heads up for you iPhone users...

http://www.redmondpie.com/snes-emula...re-its-pulled/

Someone snuck an SNES emulator into the Apple App store. Get it now before it gets pulled by Apple.
