North Fork Skull Creek Ride Pictures

345 mile day yesterday for me. More than 12 hours in the saddle. I was totally beat when I got home. Sorebutt was not kidding when he said it is going to be a long day in the morning.

Some pictures from the ride:

Grandad Bridge Ride Pictures

I finally got around to uploading pictures of the Grandad bridge ride we did last weekend.

Start at Kendrick city park:

First stop Elk River: Sorebutt helping out a couple from Montana with directions.

Luckily we had credible directions:

Grandad Bridge:

The water level was low compared to the previous times I have seen it. I remembered my first adventure ride with theTourist several years ago and then the drive two years ago with Idarider:

One of my favorite memories restlessrider, getting stuck in the snow drift on top of Bertha in my truck ( nearly on purpose) your father in law , who is a manager used to being in control, just about ready to totally freak out as it is snowing hard on us at 6000' in the middle of nowhere and he has no idea where we are or how we are going to get out.
4 wheeler in the back of the pickup and it was just a baby snow drift left over from winter .
If I had pulled the tow strap from under the seat and unloaded the four wheeler we could have got out easier, but not nearly as much fun as digging out.

I always enjoy Grandad bridge, almost always stop and have lunch in the middle of the bridge every spring, usually with a table and chairs , grill something.
Up the lake from Grandad with a full lake:

Usually some violet winged swallows ( think I got the name right) around then, the picture below was taken on the next bridge upriver

Hot Rod Lincoln

As I was researching drummer Karl Bingle I ran across this tie in of the Hot Rod Linclon to Lewiston and thought you would all enjoy seeing this. I suspect The Tourist already knows of the history but I was unaware of it so I figured others are too.

The next one is just for fun with the kid actors and the creativity of the early sixties. They are from Spokane so they are local "stars".

So who's headed out riding this weekend?
Be sure to take pictures and extra points for stopping to enjoy the flowers.

I would probably be staying home if someone else wasn't driving tonight. A double shift on Friday , then 700 miles of driving yesterday and today. Time for a nap.

Several hours on the DR today centered on Shanghai Butte out of Pierce. Lots of fun, not too much dust. Packed the .410 contender hoping to see a grouse. No luck there. Time for a nap

1000+ Miles over Labor Day!

Teaser: I will post pics tonight... we are home after logging in a little over 1000 miles... Janet can now check off the Magruder Highway off her bucket list... she took a tumbled (first time on this bike) and will explain later. Trip was an adventurer and trying on two days and the rest was just burning up tar... more to follow...

1000+ Miles over Labor Day

Well Janet drove the Magruder Corridor this past Saturday...

After topping off at Elk City we headed East. Honestly other than one ten mile section the road was in super shape. There had been washouts and the road was being repaired.

We flew along this area pretty good

We entered a pretty steep downhill section with Janet in the lead... to the right side of the road was a serious drop off, so we were taking it easy... the road was pretty rutted, deep loose dirt, and while rounding a corner she met head on with a side by side that was trying to climb the steep grade... Janet steered toward the outside of the road and tried to stop... but the bike started to get away from her so she took the wise choice to throw the bike down as I had told her "if all else fails dump the BIKE!" Well I forgot to tell her to NOT fall under the bike to protect it from damage... so here she is with a running G650GS laying across her left leg... she is howling that her foot is bent backwards... it was an uphill lift and with the help of the ATV driver we got the bike off of her... some bumps and bruises she was fine and only the handlebar bolt that holds on the handlebar weight was broken... everyone was asking her "are you sure you are okay?"

On the road taking a break...

the tough girl

Just past the Magruder Ridge my bike got pretty loose and crap... had a flat. We run tubes so in about 40 minutes... had it fixed

We then got dumped on with hours of rain... and had the fun of setting up camp in the rain and now the dark... we were throwing stuff in the tent as quick as we could but a lot of stuff got wet... yea it was raining that hard. Fun things to do in the dark... I was cooking... thought the freeze dried "steak, potatoes and gravy" sounded great when I bought it but it was nothing but astronaut food when I got it "cooked." I poured some in a bowl for Janet and I ate out of the packet... it looked like something you would find in a babies diapers and probably only tasted slightly better... but it was hot and supposed to have nutrition... we ate our share and did not have seconds. We climbed into the tent and crashed to the sounds of the down pouring of rain until daybreak... it sucked! (but it was better than being at work!) Anyway we had a really late start the next day (like 1 PM) as we hung stuff up, built a fire (that was a feat... thank goodness for gasoline... any wood we found was soaked... after three drying episodes with gas... the wood caught fire and we started drying)...

more later
