That was a lot of fun. We had every type of weather except hail. I was looking for a place to turn around heading for the pass because my face shield was covered with snow and I couldn't see the road. I was glad Mtseeker passed me and said lets turn around. That way I could call the others wimps for quiting. A snow plow driver went by us coming from the pass and he raised his hands like "what the hell are you guys doing"

Sorry I missed it and glad I went and watched a pistol match. The picture of you guys and the Lochsa lodge is priceless.

Missed you Idarider. Nice report Mtnseeker. No pictures so that 180 didn't happen. Great ride today. 420 miles. Cold and freezing but fun. I missed MtnSeeker at the meetup point in the morning by about 10 mins and managed to miss the group again at the gas station at Kamiah opposite to the Its-a-ye-ye casino. Finally we all met somewhere between Kooskia and Lowell. I was lucky to find some gas at Lowell, when the lady came over to open the store which was closed for the season. I too am grateful that I have a bunch of friends I can ride and spend time with.

Subscribed for future planning. Would love to meet up and go for a ride next time. I'm not on the Palouse necessarily, I'm located in Cottonwood, just about 45 miles from Lewiston. I have a feeling though, this is about as close as I'll get regionally, I don't see many dual sports on the prairie.

We ride with people from all over. In fact, I think Valley people out number Palouse people.

We ride your direction a lot to head to the Salmon, Hell's Canyon or South Fork.

What are you riding?

Welcome!

Looks like he has an F800GS so he would fit right in with you and MTNseker sorebutt.

There is also a local riders group that meets at Mac's cycle on the first Saturday of each month so that will be April 5th and I think it is at 10 am still winter hours but may be at 9 am . A very good group of people with some from further than Cottonwood, Kamiah, Wallowa, Moscow for a few. Nominally a BMW group but everyone is very welcome. I am sure there will be rides starting from Mac's next Saturday. If you want on the email list PM an address to me and I will forward it so you can get the next meeting info.

I have had a ride planned up that way for a while so if I get going tomorrow and it isn't rainy I will be heading out the old winchester grade, Craigmont and at least to Gifford Rueubens, maybe further.

Sounds great, pm sent. As far as the bikes go, I haven't fully updated this profile yet. I do have an f800gs that I actually picked up at Mac's a short while ago. Was the used 2011 with about 9500 on the odometer. The gear is coming in at random shipment intervals so no mocking me for the next month or so.

I also have a ktm exc track bike, and an old evolution hd wide glide, no judging!

As far as schedule goes I'm still fairly low on the age bracket at 26, but have plenty of miles in the saddle, have been riding street and dirt both for many years, and will not hold up a ride! That being said Monday thru Fridays I stay quite busy at work paying for these hobbies and supporting the family. Weekends are usually free though!

Oh and if you head up old Winchester grade tomorrow, there's still gobs of sand on the top half in every corner, I was down it a week or so ago. Reubens Gifford is in wonderful shape as always though.

I have sent in your email address to Chuck, so he will probably add you to the list quickly if he is in town.

Last year on the last weekend of March we rode to Solders Meadows, Graves Creek, Joseph Plains, Pittsburgh Landing and took the old White Bird grade to Grangeville. We had planned to drop down to the Clearwater River but ran out of time and came back through Nezperce. I remember the Salmon and Snake River canyons were beautiful that time of year. Can't remember if we stopped for lunch.

Anyway why don't we do it again this Sunday if the weather is going to be decent and roads clear? Not sure about the snow conditions in the Solders Meadows area or Joseph Plains this year. Anyone know?

If someone had a better idea we could do that too.

Soldiers Meadow / Joseph

We've been to Joseph and Soldiers this spring in pickups, by now it's nothing that you couldn't skirt around on the bike. In typical off road fashion though, you're supposed to hang out in the snow, wait for a friend to catch up, then let a little debris fly!

I was hoping to go for a ride Sunday, but was an idiot when I ordered my gear. My jacket and gloves came in the perfect size, my pants, not so much. I really don't feel like doing some wet off roading in jeans...

Hope you guys have fun!

Great minds must think alike. I was thinking about that ride Sunday. I didn't realize that it was the last weekend in March when we did it last year. I think we ate in Cottonwood before we went down Graves Creek.

My new neighbor works at the hatchery at Pittsburg Landing. He said there is just a little snow on top in the shade. We have a little more snow this year, but the roads were pretty bare last year. I suspect that the shady area of Craig Mountain will be the only snow. I'll check with someone and see if I can get snow information.

I checked with someone in the F&G that works up there and they said they were up there a couple of days ago and there is snow on the road up the mountain.

How about we go up the old Winchester Grade and then take the road out of Winchester to West Lake. The only problem is if that shady draw out of Winchester is packed with snow. Then we would have to change plans.
