You think? I was thinking that as well. But for now, I'm done working on it and just want to ride it.

Did you change the linkage to raise the rear?? I noticed you still have the stock shock.

Yeah, I thought it looked sharper in those pics you posted last week without the front fender so a low one is the correct route, me tinks. And the fork protectors must be the same grey ofcourse.

Kudos though, nice piece of work

I handed my cylinder head over to Oslo cylinder service today to see if they can make it level without removing more than 10/100s mm.... the place where the exhaust escapes to the coolant is in the center front and the opening is actually 1 cm wide (as evident by the black soot)..... it will be ready tomorrow so I don't have to wait long to see if the cheap fix was possible. Ordered a new head gasket (sucks to have to replace it again after just 450km...) and I got the usual response (Norways largest BMW dealer):

- We don't have that in stock
Me: So you'll have it tomorrow ?!
- If they have it in stock in Sweden we'll have it in three days
Me: hmmm...
- But if we have to get it from Germany it takes 5 days
Me: That's just great.....call me.

Worth it? Absolutely not. Then again, lofty MPG is one of the reasons I love my Dakar so much.

Run cleaner? No. First of all, you've removed the catalytic converter, so you're tossing more into the air. Secondly, you're cutting MPG pretty much in half and burning twice the fuel.
Fook mi.

Think I'll just go on a diet instead
If anyone knows of a beer based diet please let me know

alloy gear shift lever?

Does anyone know if any folding Alloy gear shift levers from other bikes fit on a Dakar? Hopefully a bit longer than the stock item as well

Signal Minder

I'm assuming this is the right thread for a 2009 G650GS question. Has anyone ever installed a Signal Minder? Where, exactly, do you tap into the wiring?
If there's a post about this already, sorry, I didn't find it.
How 'bout a loud beeper? Anyone ever add one? And where to tap the wires? Where is the turn signal box on these 650GS's? I don't know wiring outside of Jap bikes.

I'm bored!

So, after riding the mod'd Dakar all day yesterday, I've come to one conclusion after shedding 55-60 lbs.................

I think it can be lighter and smarter.

So, I will be ditching my whole rear sub frame, stock gas tank, "new" seat and "new" tail gas tank for a monocoque construction Husaberg-inspired gas tank/sub-frame combo.

The tank/subframe should weigh less than the stock tank alone, hold 8 gallons of fuel and be stronger than the current lay out. It will have a dual wall construction and be fillable from both sides and have a dual cell lay out that will allow me to close off one side should it get ruptured, thereby saving 50% of the remaining fuel.

It will look something like this in profile and use a stock WR 450 rear fender.

Would anyone like to see a build thread for this small little project?

I have it on mine. I didn't buy it for the 'signal minder' feature. (I don't use my turn signals ) I got it for the hazard, the run/turn/brake light integration. It's the second best mod I've done on my bike.

Not hard to do at all, all the wires (left, right turn signal, brake, running[tail light]) are under the seat. The flasher is in front of the battery.

Yep, I would.

When are you starting the production lines?

Signal Minders

Anyone install one in a Dakar or G650GS? Where would it wire into? Where is the turn signal "black box?"

Hammerhead should have ranges of different offset to fit you.
