The seller of the used shock shouldn't necessarily be faulted if you received it in advertised condition. They are not meant for regular users to service them, so in a lot of ways they are "black boxes". Can appear that all is well, clean and nice, but in reality a seal is ready to blow. It is very hard to predict when something like this will happen so if you got many months of use out of it, it is more likely to be bad luck than dishonesty.
Gravel Seeker, Finland Thumper thank you for the insight...
I bite the bullet and with my work PPE, google, ear plug, face shield.... I removed the connection hose from the shock..
Phewww still alive... the oil in the preload adjuster was almost dry. I top up and tighten eveything and will install it back over the weekend. The costs of shipping it back to the dealer(it was new) or ohlins itself will cost a bomb in singapore...
If it still leaks then I will lost a hundred or two but gain a thousand of knowledge...
Thank again guys...

Hey, guys! Greetings from Brazil!

I am an owner of a 02 Dakar. It´s all original, with 15k miles. I bought it last month and since then I have ridden all day. Glad I found this site with lots of tips!.
I have an '01, same color, which I think is the best ! It may also look really cool in Green and Yellow !

There is a guy posting on another thread here heading your way on a '97 Funduro.....check out this thread....

Maybe you can show him some nice roads...........

Cool, that you wer able to get it apart. If you have problems ohlins says that there is a distributor in Singapore which can probably do your service locally:

http://www.ohlins.se/About-the-compa...ributors/Asia/

That way you don't need to muck around with international shipping!!

I'm with you, $4900 sounded pretty good. If it is $4000 I'm gonna feel really bad. I just paid $3900 for this one. It's a 2001 with lots of Happy Trails goodies, a fresh 12,000 mile service, and new rubber. I need new sprockets and a chain though. I'm thinking brake pads aren't too far off either. I've already put 2,500 miles on it and am loving the bike. But, if she paid $4K for hers I'll be liking mine a little less....nah, not really

Damn RG. You got a steal either way. I paid just over $4K for my 2001 w/nothing other than tires!!! Other than the fork/shock upgrade, you got enough farkles on there to really just sit tight! Awesome deal!!!

Enjoy! BTW, Im a East Tn guy (JC/Tri-Cities) and just drove through your neck of the woods on a trip from Memphis to East Tn. Pretty area! In Cali now though and loving the riding here, although missing the trees!

haha!
i snagged it for $4500. includes lots of touratec extras. as well as tank bag and saddle bags, extra tires, 3 windscreens, and much much more.

Couldnt be happier. I will have this bike till i die, or it just completely blows up beyond repair.
