Most bike shops will make cables, even mower shops make cables. When I had longer cables made they used the old adjusters and fitted longer outer and inner with new ends. Very simple to do.

Did a 400 km bush ride on the weekend with a mate on an XT600..... ......his bike ewas nicer (more comfy,smoother) on the road and easy firetrails but everywhere else I'd take the XR.

I've only had this bike for a week but I think it's a keeper.The motors a gem.......it's happy plodding around or ripping it up.

are ya heading up to Delegate this year

good to see ya brought a real bike ,hows the Buell going....
got a mate that will be a Delegate that knows shit loads about XR 650R

Do the xr650s have/had any problems with choke butterfly breaking on the std carb?,see ballards do a update for the 600 and also showed a updated/stronger whatever chokeplate for 650 models......any info gents?

Buell's going good.......the XR's a bit easier to punt on the dirt tho.......

I bought one for the xr400. Apparently the butterfly is the same on the 600 and 650's. The standard has two holes in the plate right across where the pin sits to swivel the butterfly plate, causing fatigue.
The Ballards plate has no holes, no weak points.
Ballards run a special purchase, buy the choke plate and get the CDI protector plate too, for $29 all up.

Okay.......I'm starting to love the XR and thinking it could be a really good bike with a few mods,.....first being the suspension,

I'm told "teknik" are the boys to see ??......whatayareckon ??

Also looking for some shorty levers that will fit the stock perches ??

Nice motor....but I did notice alot of mechanical noise coming up at me.....put it down to the bashplate but......how noisy are these things ??.......this ones waaayy louder than my WR450.

Mine is pretty noisy, like a clacking. Sounds like piston slap or even big end.
Apparantly it's nothing to worry about..........mine has the stock plastic bashplate.

Changed the carb for a 40mm FCR. Has changed the bike profoundly. I had to machine an adapter and massage the tank, but it's the best $250 i could spend on the bike. Also added a 16l tank and i'll put an alloy bashplate and sort the bars a bit better.

I've done about 500km on mine, about one third proper trails, a third windy mountain roads and a third hwy.

Sounds as though we need a Vic pig ride :)

My XR650 is ex GHR thats was never raced it has had the suspension done by teknik's couldnt say enough about them.
My shorty levers I got from Fathead at Battyes Bikes Sydney 02 95435133
I have a MSC damper under bar mount with K Windham high bend Pro Taper bars as per picture and I run standard length cables

I have raced and ridden mine now for 4 years and haven't had a problem that wasnt caused by my stupidity and mine has HRC engine kit

I've got three wires coming from the brakelight to the loom under the seat.....red/black and black&white...

Can anyone tell me what colour wires these plug into...???......cheer's.

Mates got one, bought it with 10k on it, couldnt start it (the guy he bought it off had no problem), uncorked it, put a carby kit through it and still cant start the damn thing without 20 goes at it

Spend half our day waiting for him to start the bastard.

Any tips I can on setup and kicking give him? (apart from sell it)
