Nope a Mert Lawwill fork, yes the famous motorcycle racer use to design bicycle parts, Actually my original fork was this, one of a few made for him at Kosman's in San Francisco but the fork broke and "Control tech" (the company that bought the rights from the fork from Lawwill send me a CNC version)

he even make some rigid frames like this.

Plus a bunch of full suspension frames of his own design under his name and then for Yeti cycles in Colorado.

Alright, want a bike. Looking for a do it all bike, meaning casual rides, a bit of excercise, and touring. I live near the Antietem Battlefield as well as th C&O canal, so plenty of riding areas.

I am not rich, so if I get some ideas of what to look for I may go the used route.

Any help is appreciated.. Thanks!

It is like asking what kind of bike is best....you will get many different answers.

Go to your local bike shop and look around, sit on a bunch. If you are doing mostly pavement with some dirt trails, a cyclocross or hybrid will do well.

I have a road bike, hybrid, and MTB, always picking one or the other depending on where I am going. The hybrid is a do-it-all bike, though, but if I had to do it again, I would get a cyclocross instead.

I always advise to get on Craigslist or hit Bikesdirect.com up for a cheapie as a first ride,
because if you stick with it, which there is a good chance you will, you WILL want a new
rig more suitable to your post-beginner routine/style/etc . . .
I prefer 70's and 70's Japanese and American luggers after lots of experimentation, so I
got off easy after the learning curve

Happy hunting !

New bars

I was thinking of either supplementing or replacing the Vaya a few weeks ago, and test rode several different bikes. I came to the conclusion that the bars make the biggest difference in comfort and feel on the bike, for me anyway, and if don't get along with the bar shape, I don't like the bike. One of the bikes I rode was a Salsa Chili Con Crosso with the Cowbell 2 bar, and I loved my hand placement on it, so I swapped out the Bell Lap bar on the Vaya (it's cheaper than buying a new bike). I'm getting better at tape-wrapping the bars, but still need some practice...

I'm digging the Vaya again. Very comfy!
