I have gone from a Jabba the Hut to where I can at least see my feet. Its a tough bike, I am still 230 and nothing has broken yet.

[QUOTE=Askel;18608759]What's the thing on the head/steering tube?[/QUOTE

Hopey steering dampener. Very cool for this FAT tire bike... Keeps the bars in check in the rough stuff.

Any help is appreciated.. Thanks!
Some kind of cyclocross bike with eyelets. If the bike has eyelets, likely it has a more all-arounder geometry versus a true 'cross racebike.

Gunnar Crosshairs
Salsa Vaya
Salsa Fargo

...and PM Askel for advice. He's more into the gravel grinder/all round bikes than I am. I tend to race em in criteriums and on the track.

I was wondering if you could post some detailed shots over on the Vintage forum at MTBR.com. The folks over there would REALLY appreciate it I'm sure...

Looks like there are quite a few original components still hanging on- Early Shimano MTB cranks, brakes, f. der., Suntour (?) pedals...Cool!

Can't see the wheels/hubs well, looks like it was converted to XT 6 or 7s index at some point (when the previously mentioned sharkfin was added)....

Though it may not look it at first glance, to those 'in the know' this is actually one of the coolest bikes posted on this thread!

Mmmm,Its been a long time,I still have the original hi-flanged wheels but the old "snake bellies" dri-rotted many moon ago.My buddy built these wheels and I run street tires on them.Everything else is original with the exception of grips,seat,rack.The chain rings are Bio Pace(?) and original.I had a seat hite spring(Cunningham?) but it didnt work well with the seat post brake hanger on this bike.I had "Moots handles" which were big wooden knobs on straight bars that bolted to the handle bars.Early aero stuff.I think the rims are"Ambrosia Durex" or something,still hanging in garage.I appreciate your comments,its hard finding info about these bikes.

Newest addition to the fleet...an XL Santa Cruz Tallboy:

25.06 pounds as you see it. X0 drivetrain with grip shifts, Edge Composites wheels on DT 350 hubs, Quarq powermeter cranks. Pretty light for a FS 29er with 120mm front suspension. I normally do XC stuff on a Highball (29er hardtail), but my distances are great enough that the lack of rear suspension gets to me at some places.
