Casing Update!

Hey guys,

After weeks of a P.I.T.A here and there with many CNC shops here, I was able to find a good supplier, who is currently working on my 3D designed cases as we speak.
I'll be getting my 3 samples next week. If all goes well, I'll get the remaining 12. They are also producing the rear lids for me, so no need to find another supplier!

Here some pics of the FINAL designs (1 button = compass repeater):

As you can see, both devices will come fully cased (100% assembled with rear lid and front glass), and ready to work (wiring not shown here, though!).
The colours available are Yamaha Blue, KTM Orange and natural aluminum.

I have made some minor/major changes to the design. E.g. the battery pack from the 1st version was designed to hold 3xAAA batteries. Due to the huge overall breath of the casing, I have decided to go for 2 button batteries (2x CR2032), just like the original ICO has it. Obviously, this is only needed for my tripmaster, and not the repeater.
Not to frighten you, these button batteries will last just as long as the AAA's!

Not just the breath, but both length and height were minimized as much as possible, making the entire setup as light as possible!

Measurments: (LxHxB) 85x42x33mm (The breath refers to the size from the rear lid all the way to the front of the glass!)
Comparison to original ICO size: (LxH) 91x46mm

The pictures show an orange LED backlight, but I currently only have lime-green available. I'll be able to change them on request!

Obviously becasue of the casing, the old prices are going to be changed
Still have to crunch the numbers...

Once my samples arrive I'll post new pics!

???NOW, WHO'S INTERESTED???

Due to my home mill being broken, I'm no longer able to make them...
But since I've been able to find a really good CNC shop here, I could make them. That is if there is enough demand!

If you want one, that'll make a total of 3 (me + dad, one each). I'll check with the shop, but to make the effort worthwhile, I think we'd need about 10 pieces made... If you can gather that many people, I'm sure that something can be arranged!

The actual look of the instrument, with lime green LED backlighting:

Tony, is there a remote increment/decrement/reset for the tripmeter?

There is no actual remote control unit included... (The mentioned functions are available for external access!!!)
What can be done, though, is that you're able to attach an original ICO remote, or similar. I'll be attaching a waterproof cable on to the rear of the tripmaster, which'll allow a 1:1 connection to an original ICO remote (the cable with the M8 screw around it).

The other option would be to make the roadbook/tripmaster combi switch, that is if I get enough people together for the production costs to be worth it...
Said combi-remote:

I contacted the CNC shop to see when I'd be getting my cases.
They said they'd have them finished by this Wednesday, but anodizing them would take another 2 days, so they'll be shipped of to me on Friday, or Monday at latest. !!!CAN'T WAIT ANY LONGER!!!!

Now, to the roadbook/tripmaster combi switch. I have pre-designed one, as you can tell from the pic below. I'll talk to the CNC guys to see what it'll cost to get some made.

I have to admit, it does look damn fine!

Pretty accurate to the latest model from Marc Coma's bike:

Should the manufacturing cost not be all to high, I'll be opening a new thread under "Vendors" soon...

..

Ill have to rephrase that one.

If you can make the remote(bernice by the way) Im in for:
1: 2 x ICO
2: 1 x repeater
1: 1 x remote

But only if its "remoted".

Keep up the superb work.

Repeater

Tony, thanks for the email today. Yes, I am in for a repeater and case, as it looks like my CNC guy is in the process of moving to a new location. Looks great, and let me know when you have some RB/ICO switches available as well.

Hey guys,

Haven't received anything yet. NO REASON TO PANIC (DAMMIT, I CAN'T WAIT ANY LONGER)!

This time I want to know from you guys what sort of extra features you'd like to be included with both devices.

Here a couple of examples.
Tripmaster:
- 1, 2 or 3 individual trips? How should they be displayed, to show each trip differently?
- Odometer (permanently saved)?
- Speed in km/h and mph, too?
- ...

Repeater:
- Speed in km/h and mph, too?
- ...

I was asked by a few guys whether it was possible to have a tripmaster and repeater unit in one. Unfortunately this can't be done, due to the limited hardware resources on the circuit boards... So it's either one, or the other.

If you guys have any further suggestions, then I'll see what can be done, and try to include them into the software!

Stay tuned!

Was there a finished price for the tripmeter with case yet?
