I saw these murals last June on the wall of an old restored church in Mondsee, Austria, in the "Lake Country" district near Salzburg. Absolutely beautiful place. The "Red Bull" corporate HQ is nearby, and believe it or not, the movie "The Sound of Music" had a wedding scene filmed in this church (I'll post more photos, if you wish).

These striking images depict the muralist's impressionistic view of the devastation caused by the world wars. In the first photo, below, a horrible, grotesque monster ridden by symbolic death tramples and burns a ravaged city and it's people. Near his mouth you can see bird-like planes dropping bombs.

In the second photo, a solemn German (e.g., Austrian) soldier stands, hat in hand, with a halo surrounding his head as his adoring countrymen gaze lovingly upon him (note the lederhosen & traditional Austrian garb). His weapon is symbolically placed behind him: the war is over and the brave (sainted!) soldier is welcomed home.

Finally, names of about a hundred or so fallen citizen-soldiers from Mondsee and nearby towns are inscribed on stone tablets located below the murals (note the very Teutonic-sounding surnames!).

So many names, and these are tiny villages: to have lost so many local men in their prime must have been devastating, and these murals convey that emotion:

This one isn't really a Mural, but it's pretty cool. Dodge City, KS.

The Key West dump got this three dimensional Muriel, sort of putting lipstick on a pig. Clever lipstick though.
