Clayton Inn to Queen Wilhelmena Inn

Has anyone ridden offroad from Clayton Inn to the Queen Wilhelmena Inn?

I just routed it on Garmin BaseCamp and it's mostly the K Trail and National Forest Service roads, so I'm not sure they're all open for travel.

Not the best directions, but for someone familiar with the area this will hopefully make some sense:

Guess I should have done a screen shot, but thought the road names would be helpful for someone familiar with the area.

Nice Route and good question...

We were riding forest roads up there a couple of years back, had the route planned and one of the roads had a huge gate on it. We had to reroute and fortunately it wasn't a major issue for us. On this route, not too many other routes if you hit a gate.

I'm interested in the answer to this as well.

Routing strictly off of Garmin Maps and/or Google maps in this area is pretty tricky. The closest access to K-Trail from Clayton used to be by way of Clayton Trail (the map shows closer access, but they are gated), and I think as of about a year ago, that was still the case. Going up Clayton trail is probably more gnarly than any of the actual K-Trail. From there your route looks solid. Once you are on K-trail you will have no other gate issues. When you turn North off of K-trail (Pigeon Creek N34 35.959 W94 30.224), there is also an option to go South. Read this report if you want to see what happens if you go South :http://www.twtex.com/forums/showthread.php?t=85354

For future rides, you may find the MVUM maps for the area handy. Here is a link: http://www.fs.usda.gov/detailfull/ou...448&width=full

The MVUM maps show all the legal open roads and trails in the Ouachita National Forest. There is a lot of great riding in that area. I am planning on getting back up that way in a couple of weeks.

Good luck with your ride

The Queen Willimena Lodge is closed for repairs if you had plans on staying there. A great place to stay, when they are open.
