I can't just hop on the bike and come up there, its 160 miles one way.
So thats why I have to plan some kind of camping thing.
If I get the extra time, I'd like to get back up there sometime next month.

alright, im pissed

ordered a new ( aftermarket) kickstarter for this little xr250r

it came today, it doesnt fit, the bend is correct, but the splined part is far too large, it easily slips on and off the spindle shaft, even with the bolt in it.

so I look up the part number, they show it 'should' fit, according to the aftermarket companies catalog.

ebay seller has a shit ton of hassle return policy, and im still stuck without a kick starter.
I thought possibly the bike could be a late 85 instead of early 86, but the 85's had dual carbs, this one has a single.

anyone know how to narrow it down, or order a part based on the spindle /spline diameter?

I do not have the original kickstarter, only the one the previous owner bought from ill eddys, and it was the wrong part as well ( thats why it stripped I imagine)

what a giant pain in my ass, im gonna part this piece of shit out, and start with something newer I think.

Afternoon

Hey gents (and ladies?)

Just figured I'd post up quick since I've been slowly working my way through the last few months of this thread. I haven't done any dirt riding or long rides as of yet, and have only been riding a couple years, but figure maybe at some point in the distant future I may run in to some of you guys.

Currently riding only a little red cbr250, and looking at getting a g650gs when I get some other stuff sorted out. Mostly seen between gravette and rogers about every day- see a lot of guys on bikes but don't know if I recognize them as any of yours.

Thanks for the good reading, and I'll keep lurking around here.

Spent the trip across the desert on I40, from California to New Mexico having to stop every 20 to 30 minutes and GO from a roach coach once.

Its got to be a regional thing sometimes.
Like down around Miami they sell a mashed potato ball with seasoned beef in the middle, and rolled in something and deep fried. I love those things.
Just can't find it here and have no idea what it was called.

Found something.....

Cuban Potato Balls.
IF you never had one they're great.

Gotta be a way. You could bring it to Docs on the trailer next Saturday and we could all take a look at it.

Weird Matt, hate those easy to fix problems that turn into bigger problems!

from what I am reading, they updated the spindle shaft mid year in 86, I currently have the smaller spindle 16mm, they upgraded to a 17mm spindle, the kickstarter I just ordered/have is for the larger 17mm spindle

the kickstarter was $50

the updated shaft is $100

so much for a cheap beater bike.

Welcome Andrew. This is a good bunch as long as you don't:

1. Bad mouth their bike (or bikes as in the case of Albie).
2. Post more than 4 lines at a time (at least not when Charlie is online.)
3. Extol the merits of being a progressive.
4. Get between Doc and his goats.
5. Get between Matt and Sassy's on Wednesday afternoon.
6. Let Gus know of any tendencies to mistreat animals.
7. And most of all.....believe anything they say.

Maybe find a salvage engine and rob the shaft? Still talking more $$ that way.

Did you ever push start it and make sure it runs before you dump more cash into it?

Noted- don't think any of those will be an issue, especially the first since I ride a baby cbr (don't get me wrong, I love it). Thanks for the welcome guys.

possible, or find an older smaller diameter shaft via salvage.

Im loading it on the trailer right now to take to the lake with us tonight, Ill pull start it up there, and see if its even worth messing with.
