They left CT last week, and were trying to avoid the storm, and get down further south.

They do that to keep them from being battered against wharf's and other ships/boats that are adrift in harbor. Chances are better at sea. They point the bow into the waves and proceed to get sea sick.

...and a stupid decision it was. The storm track was predicted then, and the protected harbors and docks in Long Island Sound and up the CT river would have protected the ship way better, and not risk the lives of 16 folks. The Connecticut coast is full of real (not replica's like the Bounty) clippers at Mystic seaport and other locations. Time will tell, but I bet we won't read of many, if any, of them being destroyed by staying in port (of course, most have no choice).
Instead, this guy went from CT down to Hatteras as the storm was approaching?? They headed into the storm not to weather it, but so they could get a "head start" to FL. Insanity.
Let's hope the 2 missing folks are found alive so the captain/owner will only have the loss of his ship on his conscience.

The loss of the ship was probably the intent.

+1 -- it was probably insured well. easier to sink the mofo, than to sell.

Pretty sad state for the Bounty. I figure they'll take it "off line" soon, but the Bounty's Facebook page tells the story of their departure and "plan" to avoid, and situation as it unfolded rapidly.

My thoughts are certainly for the lost, and I hope their survival suits they apparently had on will keep them safe and get them found.

I ran errands on my bike and voted early...so at least I got to ride. On another note the buyers bank had our our house inspected only found three minor problems that we need to fix prior to the sale. Things are going too good to be true. Knock wood.
