NCAA prohibits alcohol at any sanctioned event. Has always been that way, just some places kinda look the other way when people sneak shit in. Gee, imagine not being able to get shit faced at a ball game, what's a drunk to do?

its been the unspoken rule from what ive been told, beer in cups was allowed.

nothing about getting drunk, or being an ass, but its an enjoyable afternoon to grill, have a few beers, and socialize, from what ive been told.

lots of my freinds have been doing it for years, and always telling me how much fun it is, I will likely never go try it now.

oh, and how does that NCAA rule apply to the booths?

it doesnt, ive seen them load those footbal boxes up before game season in the fall, lots of 2 wheeled dollies full of cases of beer, all the while telling the students they cant drink.
that to me smells like a bunch of horse shit.

Obviously, if you can't go an afternoon without a drink, you have other more pressing issues. The rules don't apply to rich people. When did you become so naive?

it has nothing to do with going an afternoon without a drink.

its about them changing something that has been allowed for a while, and has become a potentially enjoyable experience.

I just fail to see why the change, and why now?

I was hoping Tim had some actual information about the supposed policy change.

At the Swatters Club meeting last week they announced the policy. We were told they were just being consistent with the other programs and that it was for "our safety". Who knows why the enforcement all of a sudden?

Change is inevitable We are building a kinder, gentler, socialist mecca, and questioning authority is not the correct way to address it.You are to go quietly into the night and STFU!

As for why, may have something to do with the drunk assoles yelling racial slurs at an opposing teams outfielder last year.

People love crapping in their own mess kit. The plan was to implement the "practice" in the Hog Pen (outfield) as it has been for the past 10 years or more. You could bring your coolers and food out into the Hog Pen, they'll be searched for bombs, but the guys at the doors can't see beer bottles really well. If you poured it into a baptist tea cup (red solo) or some other container, didn't act like a drunk too bad (sorry Albie), all was fine.

Apparently a bunch of students started screaming about the written policy and are burning up the blogs about "no more booze in the hog pen". It is not a new policy, I guess they just noticed the fine print when they were sober.
Now that they are pushing the Athletic Dept for clarification, the department has no choice but to say that no booze will be tolerated, as is NCAA policy. The policy still allows for coolers, food and non-alcoholic drink out in the Hog Pen (i.e, it is the same written policy as it was).

My guess is that visible booze in a cooler will be sent back outside, and sneaking it into the Hog Pen will a little harder for a while. Food and booze are usually turned away from the general seating area, that is no different.

The policy that is new related to bringing bags into the seating area itself. That was allowed in baseball (mostly for piles of blankets, coats, etc.), but now they are eliminating those bags. That is the only new policy. Like I said, people get themselves in a tizzy and end up bringing it on themselves.

Once again blaming something that Can't make choices for its erroneous ways.

I heard that story, in my opinion the proper solution would be to eject them, process them for public intox, and carry on.

after to apologizing to the player, team and coach of course.

the only thing worse than a racist, is a drunk racist

It doesn't apply because booths are "officially" NOT part of the state-property stadium during the game. They are leased to private individuals, who are allowed to bring their items in 24 hours before the game. Yes, it is 2-faced, but this is standard across the country.

Funny true story: At A&M in the early 80's there was a crackdown on bringing flasks into the football stadium. They allowed booze into their limited skyboxes, and the students went ape because of the double standard. The A&M administration came down with the "private leasing" loophole as the published answer. The result: The grad students hired an attorney and it ended up that A&M longer prohibited beer in the dorm rooms of students of legal age!!! That lasted for the 4 years I was there, but I bet is gone now.

That is awesome!

Ive been to football games in the past, never snuck any booze in.
heck ive never even tailgated down in the PIT.

tailgated with the guys last year down in the trees across from the DMW

didnt drink any beer though, just grilled and tossed a frisbee.

I have to say though, my ratio of sneaking booze into the movie theater is far higher.

I'm convinced that the Hog Hat was invented for the specific purpose of sneaking flasks into games. That's the only reason I brought mine to games.
