It is also possible you just hit a tree and are lying in a ditch....learned that one in the 70's.

I learned what a speedometer was in the early 70s.

But Yeah JT, most work that way, my old suzuki and old beemer have cables, if speedo doesnt work, the cable is broke, wrong, or missing.
