Hope it's a brucing --otherwise we needs us a new tag!!

The Dubya's a really nice bike. Not super fast, but smooth and with a couple of suspension upgrades, rides well.

ADV forum for Dubya's:

Plus there's a Yahoo Group for them--with some excellent reference files.

Cody missing this long without grab notification suggests something amiss; from best case, inmate experiencing difficulty with Internet posting; to worst case, purloined polar bear or floodwater loss (latter unlikely, given recent weather).

The Inventory Control Specialist at Target must wonder at the high demand for this product, hereabouts.

Does not some inmate have possession of a spare/replacemnt? Purchased during a frustrated grab at Springfield Mall? HBN?

With no confirmed sighting reported within 24 hours after OreExpat was skunked, time for Cody IV (?), IMHO.

Seem to remember, in a mall parking lot, some difficulty making a grab of Cody underneath metal sheathing covering a concrete light-pole pillar . . . the would-be grabbers purchased a replacement, but later located the original . . . or--my unchecked imagination and/or faulty memory at work!

Harbor the notion a stand-by Cody exists; maybe not.

I do know where the bulleye store is located--in fact I recall HBN picking up a tag at one . . . !

Maybe I'll wander out that way later today.

Yikes! It must have been quite a gullywasher thru there!
I'll try to swing by and check the debris field but from the pics it doesn't look good...
Maybe Cody & Ali are together now

What I believe to be the tag site is just downhill from the creek bed of Long Branch; it's possible that one of the big thunderstorms Friday came through, overflowed the banks, and washed along the grass.

I'm heading out to get a new tag in about half an hour, I'll stop by the tag site and sift through the debris a little more. If I don't find Cody, or a note from you that you've rescued him, I'll place a new tag.

Stuff happens; based on the grass and the location, I would have used that tag site in a heartbeat. But I've got another one in mind, not too far away . . . .

Search And Rescue

First, to prepare for the possibility that Cody ended up somewhere in the Potomac, I stopped by Target looking for an exact replacement . . . . . up and down the toy isles, several times. No plastic polar bears? Or even a random alligator (shades of Ali, RIP).

What to do? Well, found this, and would have made a new tag iff'n I hadn't found The Bear.

Heck, everyone wants a new HP-2, right??

Well, after a second mortgage to afford the HP-2, I went one more time to look for da bear. Rutherford Park, Fairfax VA.

Went back to the tag tree. "Cody? Cody?" I called. Checked out the debris field, and walked into the grass along what looked like a reasonable flow path. "Cody?" And shortly, a croaking "Over here, asshole. What kept you? Why didn't you look harder, dummy?" Another step, pulling the grass apart, looking carefully . . . . . "Hi!"

Rescued! Ribbons of green may protect this stream, but not enough!

Debris had piled up behind this bridge,

And then flowed downhill, washing the poor bear into the grass.

Cody left his mark . . .

Da Bear and da almost-but-not-quite tag . . . .

Tag!

Took a little ride north, along the pig road; or the hen road if you will! then an immediate right on the Pike. Next stoplight, left on the road that isn't the current economy. Stay goin' north. Eak! Kin your see it? A community park on the right.

Tag shot. Leroy's place.

Now you see da bear,

Now you don"t.

Then about .8 Beemer miles north to the main road named for the town HBN works for . . . .

Cody said, "Reckon Miss Kitty will offer the first drink on the house?"

"Maybe," I said, "but the marshal won't be drinkin' with you. Hunker down behind the west end of the marker."

Now, covered by pine needles:

Street clue:

A minister once said, from the pulpit, "Bathsheba was merely a strip-tease artist who knew where to take a bath!"

Her audience? The man for whom this boulevard is named.
