That little post just to the left of the test kid is where Ali decided to rest at. You were at the right spot.

The Post Mortem

Returned to the tag site today -- MM155 Rest Area, Route 95S. I noticed last night that the area didn't look the same as TH's tag -- see any differences?

Yep, they had cut the brush post TH placement. So I looked, and looked figuring maybe Ali'd been flung, or worse, blade-gatored. No luck.

I was pretty much giving up. So, took some pics, and as a last ditch effort, started booting around in the brush (look dead center):

And then felt something funny . . . After pulling back the cuttings, saw what looked like a tail sticking out from the brush. . ..

Look who popped out:

Followed by the obligatory bike pic:

When facing the wrought iron fence seen in the back of this pic, you'll find Ali inside its left corner:

Covered by the grass and marked by this stick:

Happy tagging!

So glad Ali is still around. I thought Ali might not have liked being tied up, and at first chance took off!!

Ain't no thang, but . . . could this be a dupe of Tag # 420?

Enlarged the NOVA TOR map; looks very similar . . .

Splendid job of gator recovery, regardless!

Outstanding recovery by NoVaRider --- If my count is correct, Tag #800 is currently in play!

Could very well be. . ..

Sorry 'bout that. Was originally going to exhaust the TH's rest area tag, then go to Target and acquire another mascot, and then use another boundary marker (which I'm certain wasn't previously tagged). I switched plans post-recovery to make it a, quick easy grab while retaining some historical significance. Did scan the NoVa Tag map for that area on a prior occasion, must have missed the teeny green asterisk marker. . ..

No worries -- I wanted to put him back in play right away, as today is/was a great day to ride.

Next time I rescue Ali, I'll bring him back home, fire up the computer, wait for dial-up to connect, and be certain there is no dupe before retagging. . ..

Or not.

Never mind!

You did the right thing, under the circumstances. Best to have the purloined predator in play ASAP; dupes are of no consequence.

Checked the thread -- "Ali" has never been to this park. And the tag spot isn't in exactly the same spot (whew!). Ok, maybe only a few feet apart, but at least isn't an absolute dupe. . ..

I'm glad to see that Ali was recovered and put back into play. I was worried!

I never thought VDOT would trim the bushes at a rest area on a saturday!

Thanks to NV for introducing me to the concept of the boundary stones! After reading up on the topic I went and fetched Ali from his hiding spot:

He was hiding out at the West Cornerstone in a nice little park in Arlington:

Ali wanted to go somewhere with water so we headed east towards Missionhurst and arrived here:

If you were to stand next to the post above and look up you would see this:

Ali is at the base of the post under some leaves:

Happy tagging!
