I think your "rake like artifact" is a fireplace grate to cradle the wood. Just saying....

Well, I thought that when one mentions top case and KLR in the same sentence, it was implied to be a milk crate.

When I first bought the bike, I had a purple milk crate on there.

I need to repaint the top case. It got really beat up on my cross country trip in October.
