Building a shop, quick question
I'm putting together a shop, and I'm concerned about sparks from grinding/welding getting through the pegboard and into the insulation.
The upper wall of my shop is going to be pegboard all the way around (14'x28'), and there will probably be a considerable amount of grinding going on. The best thing I can think of right now is some weed barrier fabric (4' roll of the cloth stuff, not polypropylene), and staple a few layers of that between the insulated studs and the pegboard. Anyone have thoughts on this or a better idea? I know I can't be the first person to use pegboard in a welding shop and worry about catching the insulation on fire.

I think I'd just hang drywall and them mount the pegboard out from that on 1x2's. But that's just me.

I have seen a number of welding shops with insulation in/on the walls - typically fiberglass of some sort with a plastic film over it. I have seen a lot of the film melted where sparks hit it, but no fires. Is this really going to be a problem? Isn't most of this type of insulation fire retardent?

A good fire extinguisher. I had a droplight explode in fuel on a lift before. The extinguisher saved everything.

Welding curtain. That's what we use when we're cutting/welding/grinding.
a 6'X6' is only 33 dollars. You can buy a frame or just buy the tarp. You already have pegboard up so just hang it when you need it. Take it down when you're done. There are grommets at the corners. Should last someone who uses it now and again a lifetime. Well, 10 years. I worked at fiberglass plant for a couple weeks and that shit was everywhere. And it did catch fire. I don't know if they treat it afterward but it will still burn, might be fire retardant but you don't want any sparks in your walls hidden from view. http://www.toughweld.com/products/15...cement-curtain
