Bought some ammo for my Ruger MKIII, and being a tight ass I shopped for the cheapest deal I could find. Walmart Federal value pack 375 round for $11.00. Got two boxes. These are copper plated hollow points. First ten rounds had two that didn't want to eject. They fired, but the brass didn't want to eject.
Previous ammo was a box of 575 round for $17.00 but were just lead. Never had a problem with them. Apparently Federal doesn't make my gun happy. Denis

You even see this within the same model. Best advice: buy a variety of ammo and see what works. Aside from FTF/FTE, keep track of accuracy. You'd be surprised. And the worst outcome is that you spent the afternoon at the range

My grandpa bought the rifle probably 40 or so years ago, and wasn't happy with the condition, so he had it refinished. And it has sat in his gun case since then. He gave it to me, and it's been in my case for years now.
I bought some .22 shorts this weekend.....

Out Today!
With my Stainless 10/22. Winchester Power Points are very accurate but also expensive. Tried plenty of different kinds of Ammo but keep coming back to Power Points followed closely by Mini Mags. Best cheap ammo for my gun seems to be Blazers. Found all the bulk ammo crap. Bang, bang, pouff, pouff.
My CZ 22 Mag likes Maxi Mags but for some reason its doesn't seem to be available any more out here. Only other ammo I see for 22 Mag is Winchester Super X and definitely not as accurate. All set for gopher season but none around this year. |

I have had pretty good luck with the federal bulk packs. But it is all funny stuff, I have an old mauser single shot (think I posted a pic here sometime back) and it just loves sub sonic ammo...hits so well it almost makes me look like I know what I am doing.

My Henry lever action 22. Absolutely the best gun I have ever bought for $300. I believe their more expensive models are of even better quality. It eats everything, i dont know how it couldnt.

Ok!
I was wrong about the gophers not being around. Buddy called me today to help clean up his fields on his farm/ranch. Never saw so many critters. We certainly dented the population. The 22 Mag got its first real workout. Pretty devasting compared to my 1022. Really reaches out there. Gotta get more ammo. Must of shot over 1000 rounds of both.

I just bought one of those for my girlfriend a month ago, picked it up at a local shop for $259 on a special. She wanted a .22 rifle and hunts with a lever action, doesn't like anything else, so the Henry was the logical choice. I agree, it's a great little gun, & she loves it.
