I got out to the range today with the M48. The weather was beautiful and the range was very,very busy.



I ran about 100 rounds using 4 different brands and types of .22lr and the M48 shot them all great.

I had set out two targets to check out the M48, one at 50 yards, You can see that target in top right of the picture and another at 100. That target is sitting on the bench. The 50 yard target I did 5 round groups with. I shot at the 100 yard target was when I was waiting for a cease fire to change my 50 yard target.

I do not use a bench rest for shooting, I shot standing freehand at a targets placed at 50 and 100 yards. I am not worried about tight groups as much as I look for consistency. This little gun is a tack driver

I gave the gun to my friends son to shoot at a spinner target set at 75 yards, He nailed it every shot.

I also bought a box of subsonic rounds for the gun, That made me laugh, I pulled the trigger and did not hear anything. Pulled the bolt back and seen that it had discharged . The bolt makes more noise than the round

All in all I had to much fun today

I wanted to add for some reason the mauser LOVES sub sonic ammo....with other stuff, and I tried lots it tends to send one off to never never land once and a while....with subsonic everyone will be right were I want it to go. And if you thing normal 22 takes a while to go 100yards you should try a sub sonic.....first time I shot I thought I missed all together....but then ting.....oh I did hit it.

Man I love that mauser....I just need new eyes.

Thanks for the tip about the sub sonic rounds, I now know that I can run them in the back yard with out pissing the neighbors off

Yes, there was a difference in the 4 types I shot yesterday. As much as I do not like bench shooting, I may need to invest in a proper rest system to gain very accurate data with the various rounds.
But from the free hand, standing, shots I had one group that shot left low Next were center high. And one set of obscure Russian hunting ammo that I put two in the 10 ring and two in the 9 ring and one in the 3 ring. I guess we call that one shot a flyer.
All in all, yesterday was a get to know the gun day and no matter how I shot, I came away with two things, I have been spoiled by using a scope and need to spend more time shooting open sights, and that I just had so much more fun than when using higher power ammunition.

It was a great day with friends and their children, all of us shooting various rimfires and having a great time

Tonight I will take pictures of the targets and post them with the ammo used .

Here are the targets, I could not find the Winchester sheet.

CCI Quiet 22 22LR 40-grain Segmented HP at 710 FPS



CCI Mini-Mag HV 22LR 40 grain gilded lead round nose at 1235 ft/sec



One of the guy's at the range who knew I was testing gave me 5 rounds of these ..
If I did my conversions correctly, This is the bullet data 30 gr. hp bullet, 1451 fps





This was the 100 yard, everything but the Surok hunting .



If I can find anymore brands and types I will post them here, but right now the shelves are bare in many retailers of every type of ammo including .22

I have got my hands on a Caldwell lead sled and I have more ammo to test. Any suggestions ? I have never used one of these before.

I was thinking 5 round groups at 50 and 100 yards.

This will give us an accurate idea of how the different brands works.

It is fun, this is about the only way I can shoot stuff with ANY kind of kick to it anymore....Do some checking online, there are ways to keep the rifle from hopping quite so bad so setting up the next shot does not take quite so long.

Do youse guys who shoot from a rest see a significant change in the zero if you shoot the same rifle from an off-hand position?

I am shooting a heavy barrel .22, The should be no hopping, I am more worried about moving the rifle while engaging the bolt.

I would like to, but I do not own a gun with a 10 round magazines, Actually those have been outlawed by our great Govenor this week. 7 rounds is all we get in the great state of New York

I work with 2 guys who have done it and they have nothing but good things to say about the program.
