$60 for a box of 525 seems to be the going rate if you can find it in stock

I have no idea why the .22 is the hardest to find.
It's pretty weird. I remember that during the "shortage" which was really just panic-buying/hoarding back in '08-09, you could still find some .22. This time it's much much worse. Makes no sense to me, there's no "threat" to ban .22s. I am guessing that the shortages will gradually abate, but that it'll take a while. A guy at a local shop claims that in 90 days we'll be able to buy ammo like we could a year ago......I have my doubts that it'll be that soon.

I'm thinking 6 months or more.

You really have to need .22 ammo BAD to pay $60 / 525

Remember the sugar, anti-freeze, coffee and other "shortages".......................that have all come and gone.

For real! I refuse to pay the gougers.
Academy has always had .22lr at 8am. Most of it is gone by 8.02am however. You just have to resolve to be there before everyone else. On monday I was 6th in line, and the first 4 guys bought the 4 boxes of Federal (1 box limit). I had to satisfy myself with 50 rounds of blazer. Tuesday I got there 5 mins earlier, and as #2 in line got the 1400 round bucket.

Wow, a few weeks ago I walked into 4 Seasons Firearms in Woburn, MA, picked up a brick of CCI Standard Velocity for $30, and was on my way in about two minutes. Hopefully they still have stock.

I just passed the NRA Basic Pistol Instructor course. I wanted a .22 revolver for the course and teaching later, and they are now scarce as hens teeth. Even six months ago these were the most pedestrian of purchases.

I decided that it could be a long time before a 10/22 Target model shows up at a price I'm willing to pay, so I've decided to order a scope and rings for my Marlin Bolt action .22, so that eventually, when ammo becomes available again, I can go shoot at a slightly lower cost. So many scope choices, I decided on the Nikon 3-9 power scope with a .22 BDC recticle - not the cheapest thing, but if I get a better .22 rifle, I'll just move it and put the peep sight back on the Marlin.

Stopped by my local shop today, no .22 again. They hope and said that they would be rationing whatever they eventually get so it would not all be sold to one person.

One can only hope.

I got one of those. I've yet to shoot it but have shot the beat up 40x that came with it allot. Is your actually rusty? Mine only had rust inside the bolt and on the rear sight aperture. Lucked out with no razor marks either.

Recently bought an air rifle to shoot in the basement. You can still buy pellets and it's just as accurate as my .22s.

I have one, never really understood the rainbow on the action (just like this one, pic from web, too lazy to go and actually take one) or the reason the stock looks like it was painted.
WOW, I didn't know it was worth so much as I inherited it from Dad.

Also there was a Cooey Model 60 that was in rough shape, my brother has it, it never fed well, it seemed like the action was binding.

I think the major calibers went first, and quick so this caused everyone to snap up the 22LR thinking they will just "slum it" till things get back to normal.

2 months ago, I scored 4k rounds online from Cabelas at 25$/525. This was before 22LR got stupid scarce. Haven't seen any since.

This one is in new condition-the envelope with the manual has never been opened. No rust, or any cuts or marks. It has the sights, also. A 40X is the one I want next, to finish off my .22 target rifle collection.

Sent from my Samsung Note 10.1
I put the lighter spring into the gun and bought some CCI Mini Mags. The gun fires fantastic now, I'm thinking I could even go back to the old spring and get the same results.

Found 600 Rounds of the CCI MM's at $10 per box I remember buying this not long ago for $4.99 a box

The "rainbow" on the action is color case hardening. It is a traditional firearms finish to prevent the steel from rusting. Those who are into Cowboy era guns often really like the treatment. - I don't know how it is done, or how durable it is compared to other similar finishes eg blueing. I would guess the stocks are Beech or some other generic "hardwood" and heavily stained as they have no real "figure".

There are rumors of the Combo-gun return

With an MSRP of $459 (street prices will be lower) the first Model 42 Combinations are scheduled to hit the shelves late in Q1 of 2012. The debut models will be chambered in .22lr/.410, with .22 Magnum and 20-gauge offerings to follow.
But, this article was from a year ago. I went looking as I was on Savage's website a month or two ago and they had a Heading: "Return of the ComboGun" or something similar. Now I can't find it, or any mention of the CombGun.
