I wonder if a guy could figure out how to make his own tracers... Looks like all they have done there is painted some tracer on the tip of the bullet.

A first "real firearm", is something special. I still have mine (Stevens break open, exposed hammer, single shot shotgun), and take it out of the safe once in a while just to remember how proud I was to receive it and the fun times I had with my Dad when we went pheasant hunting together. Up to that point, I'd only fired his .22's, but that shotgun was all mine! I about polished the blueing off that gun!

Thanks for the link. Yup, same gun. My son's was the plain walnut with blued barrel, no checkering on the stock. My first gun was an old .22 that my dad had when he was a kid. He gave it to me when I was 8 and I shot it a bunch, but then a couple of years later it began spitting gas and particles of powder back into my face, I think it developed excessive head-space, so he took it and destroyed it, thinking it dangerous. Wish I still had it even if it was no longer shootable. It was an ugly thing, beat up looking, bluing all worn off, but I loved it.

A place nearby sells em for $15 for a box of 50. Expensive for .22 but cheap compared to most calibers.

I'd buy a box or two for some fun.

You'd have to coat the tip with magnesium or some other burnable metal and make it so it'd ignite when fired. I'd be afraid the bullet would jam in the barrel somehow.

Probably about 50 between the 3 of us. I went to the range again last night with my son.

I picked up a box of Federal hollow point 36 grain HV. 525 rounds for $12.75.

Initially I had not planned on it but my eyesight isn't what it used to be. I can see the target just fine but the front post is blurred. Maybe I'll get a cheap one and see how it goes. It's not a real issue. I'm hitting close enough just not the results I was used to.
