PS
Any thoughts on places to eat in the area would also be appreciated as well .

Skip Big Spring and stay in Abilene. No awesome oasis but they do have a state park. Lots more selection of places to eat as well. Good enough for a night's stay.

Mason, Mason City, Texas ???

I'm from Pa, a couple years ago I was riding around that part of Texas . Enroute to Luckenbach from the south .... Very late one evening in deer country, I rode into Mason or Mason City, Texas . They have a town park with the finest HOT showers I ever encountered !!! Great tent sites, not crowded by any means . it's a jewel guys . I'm heading to Tx. for the Norton Rally and some high school football in a week or so ... Look for a stickered up BMW 100gs/pd . I might make for the OP's destination as well . It looks like a fun event .

I've camped a few times under the pavilion at the city park in big spring. Bored LEO has on occasion stopped by to check on me, and I do believe there is a sign stating that overnight camping is not allowed. Never been asked to leave though. Mason, as mentioned also has camping http://www.masontxcoc.com/attraction...ort-mason-park

One of the longer dirt trails start there, goes to eckert bat cave and ends up by fredericksburg (Doss). It has a wicked slick low water xing, one of the most challenging in the AO and not recommended for bigger bikes.

You really don't want to be on the road after dark out there. I've never seen so many deer or been so wide awake but the time I took 71 from mason to llano. Literally dozens with the road lined with dead or some still twitching. I finally fell into a convoy behind a large truck and we did 30 mph the whole way.

I'll second getting off the road before dark because of deer. One of my co-workers was killed while riding his bike just outside of Big Spring....struck a deer.

If the deer don't get ya, the oil field trucks will.
