See, that's typical Newcastle. Shearer was a great striker for both England and Newcastle and he may one day be a great manager but to throw him in to the deep end where he is now ? Crazy. Typical Newcastle.

Great result for them tonight - not so much for Middlesborough. I think 1, maybe 2 north-east teams are heading out the EPL.

Looks like 2 for sure.

Here's their final 2 games.

16th place Sunderland:- Portsmouth (A) Chelsea (H)

17th place Newcastle:- Fulham (H) Aston Villa (A)

18th place Hull:- Bolton (A) Man Utd (H)

19th place Middlesbrough: Aston Villa (H) West Ham (A)

20th place West Brom:- Liverpool (H) Blackburn (A)

I pick the bottom three to lose their remaining games, N'castle might get lucky and pick up a point at out of form Villa, Sunderland to draw at home to Portsmouth.

That'd leave,

16th Sunderland...37pts
17th N'castle........35 pts
18th Hull..............34 pts
19th M'boro..........31 pts
20th West Brom....31 pts

If N'castle don't get a point from Villa, they'll still beat Hull on goal difference.

August 2008 must seem like an eternity away for Phil Brown

Super sub

Why does Fergie want to get rid of Tevez? Scores one and creates the other.

p.s. Could anyone admit publicly they support a team called Wigan

The whole West Ham/Sheffield Utd/MSI/Joorabchian thing has been a cockup from the word go.

If Fergie has contempt for player's agents, I can only imagine what he thinks of the MSI situation.

There's also rumour that the Utd lawyers are researching the possibility of getting him for free under the Bosman ruling...if you believe everything you read in The Sun

I think Newcastle will be very fortunate to get a point from either Fulham, who are playing very well, or Aston Villa, who won't need to.

I'd like to see them stay up, despite how much I dislike team owner Mike Ashley.

But I think they'll have to improve greatly to even draw with either of those clubs.

Apart from the 4-1 drubbing that Barca administered in a cup final , something really stood out to me as someone who lives in a country where hooliganism tends to happen in big matches.

Dani Alves was taking a side out when he got hit in the back of the head by a coke can thrown by a Bilbao supporter.

Immediately, the rest of the Bilbao fans started chanting "Fuera, Fuera" (out, out) and started pointing towards the culprit who was apprehended and escorted out of the grounds in short order.

THAT is supporting your team. Lovely display, absolutely fantastic.

That's very cool indeed!

And yet Spanish fans, even in F1, seem prone to racist taunts.

Bugger, sorry Bongo.

Jermaine Beckford missed a penalty as Millwall drew with Leeds to reach the play-off final 2-1 on aggregate.

Leeds had the better of a lively first half, with Beckford and Fabian Delph denied by a double save by David Forde.

Beckford had another chance from the spot when Sam Sodje was pulled back in the box but Forde saved his effort.

37,000 people for a League One match.

Can anyone argue that Leeds United don't belong in the Premiership?

I hope they can get it together next season and advance.
