Halftime impressions.

Anelka may have replaced Kalou, but Chelsea are indeed employing the same tactics they used in Barcelona. And that's a good thing!

They're dropping back, they're surrounding the man with the ball, and they're limiting his options. Again, they're cutting off passing lanes and clogging the middle.

Barcelona look most dangerous when they play a more traditional game, with Alves crossing to the far post. But banging the ball into the box isn't their style, so with luck, they'll continue to miss the vital connection at the far post.

Chelsea are relying on the counter attack. I'm hoping Drogba or Malouda breaks free and clear. Anelka doesn't have the pace.

It's going to be a nail-biting final 45.

(I'm posting this stuff in the blind because I don't want to see spoilers. I was going to suggest reading the BBC's live game tracker, I've used it before and it's decent enough.)

So he won't give a penalty on two obvious calls, but he will give a red card on a non-call?

Not very good refereeing.

Let's hope Chelsea, who have themselves been in similar situations in the Champions League (against Barca, no less,) can take advantage.

Well fuck.

I applaud Barcelona for the way they played after going a man down.

But gosh, was there ever a more clear penalty than the handball in the box? Terrible, terrible non-decision, one of three clear penalties denied Chelsea.

The final's going to be a joke. Barca will be missing three first-choice defenders. Manchester United will rip them to shreds.

What a heartbreaking game. Perfect through 92 minutes.

So my prediction is that come May 27th, you still won't be able to spell.

If you're referring to that last one, that was not a penalty.

Piquet's was.

Drogba's not so much. They were both pulling at each other and Didier did a Ronaldo when he lost out.

Ballack should have been sent off when he went at the ref. Abidal should not have been sent off.

Overall, the ref didn't do too bad of a job.

Of course it was. The man started to move his arm away, then left it hanging out because he saw where a relatively slow-moving ball was going. Clear cut penalty. Not a shadow of a doubt to anyone who knows the game.

And as for Alves taking down Malouda in the box, to give a free kick outside the box was comical. The only part of Malouda that wasn't fully in the box was his back foot, and that was on the line.

Drogba's penalty shout was very similar to Arsenal's penalty last night.

I thought the sending off was a bad decision and said so. He never even touched Anelka.

Terrible ref.

But an excellent performance by Barcelona when down to 10. They get full credit for not only defending, but also keeping the pressure on Chelsea.

As I said, the final will be a joke. 5-1 Manchester United? More? Waste of my time.

Chelsea could have finished it a few times even without a penalty.

However, they played with 10 men in their own box (or thereabout) for most of the game. Had they gone forward after Abidal's sending off they could have destroyed Barca who were looking tired after trying to break down Chelsea for 65 minutes.

Edit: Yes Shetland, i can actually say "Barca were looking tired" and it's not wrong.

I agree. They didn't capitalize on their chances.

I don't quibble with their tactics, not even for a second. They worked for 182 minutes. They missed a couple of excellent chances. That's the way it goes.

I wish he would come back and discuss that. I get into trouble with my writing occasionally because I get confused on the proper usage. I blame being raised in England. But my boss thought I was making shit up and that I had poor language skills. That pricked my vanity.
