"Hey, man! Can you do a wheelie on that liquorcycle?? Come on, do a wheelie!!"

If they had caught me at the beginning of my ride, I probably would have done something stupid, but almost home from a 50-mile wander...I just waited for their light to change so the intersection's collective IQ could go back up.

(I ride a 125cc scooter. First motorized bike.)

My ex and pillion constantly got asked "What bike do you ride?" It happened once when they saw me get off the front of the bike and my bloke get off the back. We used to joke about getting T shirts made: "It's not mine, it's hers" for him, and "It's mine, not his" for me. I was living in England at the time!!!

I recently bought a new BMW Xcountry and the day I picked it up it was foul, drizzly rain after a very long dry spell so exceptionally slippery roads. Hence I was struggling a bit and worried about dropping my new toy. I over heard this guy say with great confidence and authority "It's a BMW, she knows what she's doing" Having had 10 sad years without a bike, I sure didn't know what I was doing.

I just pointed to my head, wearing helmet, and said earplugs so he walked off. Thanks whoever it was that pointed out the earplug excuse in a past post.
He musta watched reruns of "Then Came Bronson"...

Hola, The same question was asked all over Central America: "How much for the bike?" I'd be out in the middle of nowwhere and they want to buy my bike. I would explain, with a smile, if I sold you my bike...how would I get home? They never had a good answer for that one. Saludos, Eduardo

The one I get more than any other is "How fast does that thing go?"

"It gets up and goes, that's for sure."

Funny. I never had that question when I rode the KLR. Hmmm. I guess when I told them "70" it didn't impress them too much.

Had an interseting one tonight. Stopped at Office-Depot on teh way, while wearing my Olympia Stealth suit. Left the suit on to run in. Sales associate came up to tell me that full gear was cool, and she didn't see many people wearing it. Ended up getting a number.

I've been asked how much the bike cost, can I do a wheelie, and is it comfortable to be bent over like that?

My strangest experience, though, was on my way to work way back when. I was driving down a residential road and a woman ran out from a house and flagged me down. Before I could ask what was up, she'd hopped on the back and urged me to ride on, getting her away from some guy in the house (lover? john?). At the next light she jumped off and that was that.

this time I felt stupid.

Getting more used to the usual questions when fueling up the bike, I see a car pull over next to me. I turn with most likely an arrogant "yeah, I know" kind of look on my face and I say:

"Hi folks, great day for a ride today".

Guy says:

"Uh yeah...do you know where the funeral home is?

First time this has happened:

Went to Subway, wearing my Olympia one-piece; it's got a high-viz stripe down the side and I'm wearing a hydration pack with the hose coming over my right shoulder. I get all kinds of weird comments.

The girl making my sandwich asks, "What kind of suit is that?"

I tell her, "It's a motorcycle suit. I'm riding my bike today." As witnessed by this thread, most folks still don't seem to understand why one would wear protective clothing on a motorcycle, but not this woman. She comes back with, "Don't want to scar up that pretty skin, huh?"

I'd have thought she was hitting on me, if I thought she was attractive.

Jamie

A few months back me and two friends were taking a slow, easy ride around a local state park. I was on my Suzuki DR650 supermoto, my friend on his Suzuki DL1000 V-strom (with super-knobby Continental tires), and his friend on a Suzuki Bandit. We had stopped at a parking lot to stretch and down some water, and as people walked by many would stop, look, and comment. My favorite was one gentleman that was glancing rapidly back and forth between the DL and my DR:

"Why do you have street tires on a dirt bike and knobby tires on a crotch rocket?"

Policeman: Do you know how fast you were going.

I'm thinking: Not fast enough.

But reply: Sorry officer I was trying to make progress. (local Policebike training terminology, it's worked so far; to date not 1 ticket).
