No so much a question as just bizarre. At a light a Civic pulls up next to me and the guy in the back seat starts yelling, "I love you bro! You are my hero! I want a bike, not like yours though, I want an R6." Then he asked me to wheelie my Shadow like they do in Grand Theft Auto. I just stared blankly until the light changed.

Little bump for this thread...

I'm going on a geology field study trip up at Crater Lake next weekend. Today was the orientation, logistics stuff blah blah. The group is deciding who's driving and who's riding as a passenger, you know have to car pool to keep gas costs down and of course not take 17 vehicles to limited space campsites.

Anyway, I say I'm "driving" by myself because I'll be on my motorcycle.

First response I get is

"A motorcycle? Is that even considered a vehicle?"

My non verbal response:

Then "Why would you want to ride a motorcycle on a camping trip?"

Me again: this time with a little bit of

"Gets good gas mileage and takes up very little space, oh and it's um.. fun?"

Then someone says: "You're seriously going to pack enough camping stuff for a weekend on to a motorcycle?"

Processed that for a second then realized I was dealing with non riders.

"Yes, amazingly enough I can pack up a weekends worth of camping stuff on a motorcycle....."

First time I've actually wanted to slap someone for being so..... so.... well, I'm preaching to the choir.

He could not have looked more shocked. Btw just so yall know I was dripping wet drowned rat looking when this accured and the man literly was being serious as I asked the girl at the counter if he said anything about me when I paid for my fuel she said he thought I was nuts as you can't ride a motorcycle in the rain
I got caught in a downpour on the bike the other day. Nobody said anything stupid, but I did get some confused looks as I passed a couple of cars doing 20mph with their flashers on. I had no problem at the 45mph speed limit.

Niece of colleague, doing some tasks these weeks to help out at the office: "So you really ride your bike every day to work?"
Me: "Yeah, as much as I can."
Niece: "Even tomorrow?!"
Me: "Um, yeah."
Niece: "But it's gonna rain tomorrow."
Me: "Yeah, I know."
Niece: "But riding a motorcycle in the rain is DANGEROUS!"

Distant cousin: what kind of bike do you ride?

Me: a Suzuki dr659, it's a "dual sport", I can go on and off road.

Him: will you ever get a real bike?

Me: (slightly confused) umm... It is a real bike, what do you mean?

Him: you need a Harley if your going to ride.

Me: ahh... Alright then, yea maybe some day...

I didn't know the dr650 didn't classify as a motorcycle...

In line at harbor freight with a riding friend we are both wearing our jackets and helmets in hand. Check out chick says "soo uh.....do you guys ride sport bikes or motorcycles?" (with a vroom motion of he wrist) really? in this part of the country you either have a Harley or a "ninja" apparently no other bikes can exist here.

I've heard that same shit for years and years. Both my Ducati and my 950SM will wheelie away from any Harley I've ever come across. In third gear.

I am waiting for someone to earnestly ask me that. Then I can finally have it explained what is fake about my bike that is real on a Harley.

I've had the same thing happen. I can go much faster in a heavy downpour than a car. I think the shape of the visor must clear the water better.
