Winter-tire policy in Germany does not apply to bikes?

It is! But I'm only cute enough to look better than 120kg of Hans complaining about his seat wearing out, so that might not be saying much....

I think the winter tyre policy does apply, but it only comes into effect if you damage another vehicle. Also, winter tyres have to be available in your size - no tyres, then they can't mandate that you use them. I have no idea if I can get winter tyres for the F. I don't ride it when the weather is wet and below zero. Dry for a few days and below zero, sometimes, but rarely.

Funny, but evil.

Okay, mostly funny.

On a side note: apparently the mom wasn't doable?

Just a random thread-hijack:
Yeah, the policy does indeed apply, but many tires are actually at least marked as M+S tires (K60, TKC80 etc.), although most (very few exceptions, such as the Heidenau K60 Snowtec) don't have any specific tyre mix made for low temps.

Continuing the hijack - sorry, all.
That's a problem up in Quebec, where snow-rated tires are required on any residents' vehicles, effectively taking bikes off the road in the winter season. A major PIA for our fellow riders there.

As I understand it, QC requires snow-rated tires (M+S is not snow rated, though allowed temporarily until stock is used up); snow rated tire must display the snowflake symbol.

From Atomicalex's response it seems that there is more understanding for the plight of two-wheelers in Germany.

It's snowing outside right now, thus the winter-related thoughts. Back to regularly-scheduled programming... Hopefully better weather at the Dragon? Beto to the rescue in the Killboy thread?

I parked and walked in wearing my gear and carrying my helmet. The woman behind the counter scowled at me. "Did you actually ride here? You shouldn't be on a bike in weather like this."

And then she pointed out to the guy behind the parts guy that "This guy *rode* here in this weather." They both had a chuckle. They didn't give me a 15% discount.

I would give you a discount!
Thing is I sell Husqvarna sewing machines & sewing machine parts, not motorcycle parts.

She obviously liked to partake in far to much Wisconsin meat and cheese for my tastes.

Would still let her show me her titties......

Not sure if I got that right, but if you are wondering whether you get a discount from your insurance company if you are running M+S tires in winter: No.

But in germany, if you want to ride during the winter months you have to have M+S tires by law.
So basically, if you aren't running M+S tires: A. If you are stopped in a traffic control, you'll have to pay a fine/might not even be allowed to ride any further and B. If you get involved in an accident, your insurance won't pay.

Basically, this.

Today I got (about 20 times)...

"um, it's snowing..... You aren't going home on your bike are you?"

"yup, I ride a BMW. We are not exactly the smartest people in the world."

Leave it outside and the rain washes it, right?
