Yeah I figured a UMX plane would be a bit sketchy aero-towing it... But I will try ;)

My buddy offered to use his VisionAire next time we head out.. That or just blast it straight up with a quad.

Either way, for $50, it will be fun to play with. I might even try to make a detachable motor pod with seperate battery to haul it up, then disconnect and drop it to the ground. I saw a couple guys on RCG with a setup that looked like it worked well.

I have the Ask21 too. IMHO there really isn't anything wrong with it, except that it is a pure glider that for most people is too small to see at thermal altitude.

Towing it with something a bit bigger than the recommended Cub is what I'd recommend.

We did try some of the much-marketed aero towing (I also have the UMX Carbon Cub which is the recommended tow plane) but that was really dicey operation, even in a huge indoor dome. Outside in any wind...then they are so small that at its hard to see what they're doing at altitude.

But again, at $50 it's worth it, as a sloper.

Here's my UMX Carbon Cub, used for towing that ASK21. It's kinda beat up, but still a hoot to fly. When this one is done, I'll get another one.

BTW, I'm a big Cub fan, and I've probably had a half dozen different models over the years, I have another one on the bench now (an Eflight Super Cub 25e)

You should try a starmax cub then....uber cheap on the larger size for a foam model 1400mm, and it will fly FOREVER. Only down side is zero parts availability and really weak landing gear.

I like the UMX cubs, I want to get one if I see a good deal sometime.

My buddy picked up a used PA Addiction a whie back. He had me do the maiden to trim it out, then I landed and he took it up.

Here's video - if you're at work, turn the sound down, I realized I was doing some commentary. hahaha

It flew great. Very floaty. But not enough power for me. I know that's not really what it's made for, but I like my 3D planes to have a good amount of power on tap ;)

Still not quite sure what happened. Had everything rough trimmed (all surfaces faired) yet on the first flight she wanted to hard over to the right. Got her back on the ground safely. Make a few tweaks and on the second flight she went hard over to the left and I could not save that one.

Was your rudder connection tight?

Not positive, but I believe it to be a jammed aileron linkage as the post flight inspection shows all electronics working just fine. Like I said, shit happens. Just happy I had very little time / $$ into it.

Yesterday was 52, sunny, light breeze!! Good times! Got lots of video.. Between my buddy and me we had: Two 4S VisionAires, Gaui X2, 300X, UMX ASK-21, UMX GeeBee, PA Addiction, Hunter Vtail quad, a wooden tri, and probably something else I'm forgetting...

Here's a short one towing the ASK-21 up with my buddy's 4S VA. Good times! A bit sketchy! hahaa.. The wings were V-shape at times. Definitely takes a bit of practice!!

More video coming

Receiver battery didn't get charged one day (guess I didn't plug it in all the way) and when I took flight, she got 2 minutes before the rx battery died and down she went...

What do you have in the nose of each for power?

The new version of the 110 has flaps and is very high quality. I have one with a Syssa 30cc in it. I went with the Syssa due to its rear carb, rear exhaust and ability to fit in the narrow cowl without hacking it up.

The 40 size is more lively, though, and I might have to get one.
