RC Planes RULE!!!!!
Here is my trainer I just picked up a month ago: ![]() It got in on a Wednesday. I built it right away, practiced on the sim I ordered with it, and by Saturday I soloed it without a problem! It started life as a 182. The nose gear was way weak, so I upgraded to a heavier duty one, and swapped the cheap foam wheels out for rubber ones. Then, I had a battery that wasn't all the way connected and as I was bringing it into land, the battery disconnected, the plane stalled, and nosed in. The nose wheel mount was really messed up, so I did my best to repair it. I did a couple more flights, and every landing, no matter how smooth, the nose gear would just fold in. I went to the hobby shop, and picked up all the parts to make it a taildragger, and made it into a 185 bush plane. Very fun plane, way more fun than what I started with. I have an AT-6 Texan in its box thats supposed to be for Christmas, so I have to wait to put it together. Both of these have around a 55" wingspan. Pretty neat toys.

Thanks! The thing looks real cool in the air, way better as a taildragger. I just got back from the craft store where I got some "Wicked Crimson" to paint it with. My goal is something like this. I might put some black stripes down the sides. I am going to paint the rims black, so they don't look so big. They will blend in with the tire nicely.

It already looks like it had tundra tires on it....very cool. I have actually not flown much this year. Just my parkzone planes a little. They do have a new WWI foamy I may have to take a look at.

Had a bit of an "Aw Shit" moment today with my little green plane. Fast forward to about 2:55 if you don't want to watch the whole thing. I guess a 4-cell battery was a little too much for a 450 motor. Oh well, 80 mph was fun while it lasted! The plane is fine, I'll just have to go a little bigger with the next motor.

I'm an RC nut as well, I guess.
It was a hobby turned business. About 10 years ago I started a company that manufactures R/C flying wings, called SpeedWings. I was the first company in the world that manufactured the small and micro wings in the 24"-16" size. It all started with the Mini SpeedWing, the first production 24" wing in the world. It went great guns for about a year, until other companies came out with similar (and sometimes out right copies) wings. It is still going pretty decent with around 20,000 kits and RTF's sold. I now fly everything from gliders to 50 size helicopters. It isn't quite a hobby any longer though, since I like to do other things on my off days than mess with R/C usually. A couple of pics. Radared at 108 m.p.h. with a moderate setup (28mm 2750 kv motor, 5.5 x 4.5 APC prop, 3s 2200mah Lipolys) ![]() Smaller version of the above ![]() Here's my smallest at 16" and 3 oz AUW. Flies at 60 m.p.h. on 2s and 89 m.p.h. on 3s.

My 3-D cub...
It's a 1/5th scale Hanger9 80" cub. It has a YS63 4-stroke, for power. It's light, and powerful. We had a mishap, too low to recover, and it smacked nose first. It's been repaired, and now it's time for me to refinish it... Here it sits currently... ![]() ![]() ![]() Wait a minute, that's not Cub yellow! ![]() To be continued... |

Mental note... Don't paint your new ProLine clear body with Krylon plastic paint. It looks great for about 10 seconds into driving. Then it starts to flake and peal. Gar! lol
Any suggestions on what to paint the clear plastic bodies with on the RC Cars? The next paint job will be two tone. Also, i love this VW Baja Bug body on the Slash 4x4.

So, as mentioned in an earlier post, I am buying up parts from E-bay to build up a Tamiya Bigwig.
I am not going the whole must be as original etc and happy to use newer parts. I am looking for a motor suggestion please. Brushless seems to be the way to go and I also have got the hop kit for proper bearings all round so not worried about flogging stuff out (if I should have been). It came out new with a Technigold 540 motor running a 8.4V battery pack, whats the suggestion for these days? (I don't want massive speed, just normal running time and fun) Now, just to add something, I am also starting to design a power boat, going to be around 54" long and probably one prop but maybe two, would I be able to use the same motor / same model of motor in the boat as the car? I think so but if I knew I wouldn't be asking. (there isn't much of a boat scene around where I am AFAIK) thanks Hay Ewe

Really? Did you surface prep it by using mild dish soap in warm water and thoroughly dry it first? I'm just curious, because I've used Fusion on a number of bodies with good results, sticks better than Faskolor sometimes. It will flake and chip more if it's on too thick though......maybe that's the problem?

You need a paint specifically designed for use on lexan. Practa makes some very good lexan paints. You probably know this, but paint the inside of the lexan bodies, not the outside.
