The MERV is currently in pieces .

Got my new shocks and springs yesterday and took it out for a quick bash. Handles a lot better and is way more controlled in the rough stuff. Still sits really low in the back, though.

So I was out having some fun in the dirt alley beside my house, and when I pulled it in, I heard the ominous clack-clack-clack of something bad in the gears.

Stripped it down and found that a little piece of rock must've made its way between the spur and the pinion, and took about 1/3 of a tooth off (right out of the middle). The clacking was just from the broken off piece being wedged in the gear. I scraped it out, and will probably go ahead and run it like that until I get a new spur in.

Also need to get some diff grease, as the rear diff appears to have a lot of sand in it. Time to clean them and regrease...

Well plans for revitalizing the RC10 might have gotten put on hold for a bit. My Girlfriend came over and saw me working on it and she is really interested in trying RC out. So in utter shock and wanting to encourage this kind of behavior I told her we could look at different styles of RC's and find one that she likes.

Right now her only requirement is that it has to be a VW Bug and it has to be painted pink.

So I'm making a list of the different types of cars and trucks to see which strikes her fancy. Right now we really don't have a hobby that we do together so I want to ride this interest by her for all it's worth. (We do ride together but I don't consider motorcycles a hobby, more of a necessary activity )

Thinking about 2 identical vehicles for us so if a friendly race breaks out she has a fair chance of kicking my ass!

02TAC included a pink bug body with my MERV... looks pretty neat. I'll get a shot of it once I put it back together.

Jimmy, if she is set on a Bug body, your options will be limited to the Duratrax Baja Bug -- http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...I=LXBLNRRR&P=7 but it is not available in pink nor can I find the body offered unpainted. -- or an aftermarket body such as I put on the MERV.

If you do not want to go 1/16 scale, Proline offers a body for the Slash - http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXXPL4&P=7

Wow...thanks for all the support and links! I have absolutely no problem painting my own, I have an airbrush and motivation!

I did watch the review of the Baja Bug on URC and was pretty impressed with it. Also with a little creativity I know you can mount just about any body on any chassis as long as it's the right scale. No 1/16th bodies on a 1/10th scale unless you want it to look really funky.

She's out of town til tomorrow so we'll see what she likes then.

The top bug has been discontinued but you can still find it on ebay as a RTR. As all vintage bug owners know, red will fade to pink over time. The bottom one is a reissue of an older kit they used to make in the late 70's early 80's. Both have more of a scale look.

Quick update, she was looking online and found a picture of a short course truck with a bug body on it that she liked the most. Narrowing it down.

So we have the Traxxas Slash, HPI Blitz, Associated and Losi race trucks, AARMA Fury, Kyosho Ultima SC, Racers Edge pro 2, ECX Torment, and the Hobby King Trooper 4x4.

Traxxas Slash has parts and aftermarket support hands down over the others but it is the most expensive. Still want to look at the others to see if there are any hidden gems. Will be bashing only so a race truck isn't that practical.

baja bug by parma/pse http://www.shopatron.com/products/pr...991.0.0?pp=15&
I would go with the slash, waterproof and nearly unbreakable.

Regarding the excessive dust in the video...yes there was a water shortageWe just got our 67GPM pump hooked up this week and it is much better.

It was 91 degrees on Sunday and after soaking the track for 20 minutes, waiting 10 for the puddles to disappear the dust was coming back by the end of this race.

Well there is no way I'm dropping $800 bucks to get 2 Slash 4x4's but two 2wd's might be an option. Oh and before someone says it, eBay is not an option.....really don't like doing business there. Craigslist might work tho. At least for mine. I'd get hers new if at all possible.

If there is a track in your area you may want to swing by and see if anyone is selling....don't know if it is true now or not but when this entire slash thing started, people jumped in, then sold off when other "more race" trucks came out....at that time here they sold for around $100 each.

Personally I think that the original 2wd slash is a great truck and in the right hands can beat 99% of the guys out there....and if you are just fooling in the back yard it is all the more better.
