Flew three packs in the Great Hall (banquet hall) after work. Those paper balls are hard-to-avoid obstacles!

Video here

VIDEO0018.mp4

Taken with phone's camera so excuse the poor quality. I thought of it last minute and just tucked it in my transmitter's strap.

I THINK wifey is getting me a Go Pro for my birthday next week :)

Nice flying in a small space! Did you get those airliners going?

Thanks, indoors is bad for space but good for no wind! If those damn balls and tables and chairs weren't there it'd be better!

I did get them going. The 380 is still stock. Flies pretty well. No video of that yet. The MD-11 is fun but I kept crashing it outside. The wind was too much. So, I took the next bigger tail motor and rotor (off of a Blade 120SR heli). It's heavier but has much more thrust.

Here is a short video.

VIDEO0018.mp4

My other project is finished. A radio controlled spider on a fishing line. It's on a spool/drum powered by a continuous-rotation servo. I work at a wildlife museum so I've been scaring employees with it.

Next up is I think I'll try to put vectored thrust on my Crack Yak (the foamy in the video). Why not, right? Let's see how tight of loop I can get.

An R/C spider?? That's different. Need some video of your cow-orker's reactions!

Here's my latest project that I just got flying. As you can see in the video it has some roll oscillations that I'm working on. The gyro is adjustable on each axis, so it's just a matter of time before I get it right.

Retracts aren't necessary, I just thought it would be cool.

It's just on the elevator channel for up/down from a ledge/above a desk, but I can put it anywhere. I was thinking along the floor also It's R/C rather than on a motion detector so I can a) time the drop, b) put expo on the servo so I can creep it or yank it fast, and c) for bi-directional control.

Next for work is a servo to pull a pin and drop a rubber snake on unsuspecting customers...er, coworkers.

I'll get some hidden camera footage for sure!

Youtube is blocked here, I'll check out your video ASAP.

Watched the video. Very cool! I love the retracts!

I was never really interested in quads until I got the E-Flite mQX. Fun little things!

Here is my spider. I got one of the housekeeping girls, the CEO's assistant, and the VP of Development Made them all jump! Cameras to capture the shock is the next step!

Here are some pics and video of it. Got embed to work. Forgot I hace to click on the little "A/A" box in the right hand corner.

The case/box is enclosed for a few reasons. To cut down on noise, so I could mount some guide wheels, and so it's easy to set up and hide (I'll eventually paint it.

Why so big? Well, servos are usually strong but slow. So, to get the speed I needed at full stick I had to increase the circumerence of the drum. It now drops about 20 feet in six seconds.

Box with carrying strap

6V DC adapter input and on/off switch. I can also run it on a 7.4 2S with a BEC (used an ESC with capped motor leads).

Opened up. The wheel is on the door for easy access. The small foam wheels (one on door, one inside case) help keep the drum running smooth and align the fishing line into the brass guide tube.

Inside wheel

My brother's Dachshund (we're dogsitting), Phoebe, wondering what I'm doing.

Super scary spider. The slot is for the brass tube to line up flush with the outside of the box. I added these cleats but forgot to slice a hole for the line. I cut a slot for the line between taking the two videos.

Receiver, switch, plug, and servo wire. AR600 receiver. Way overkill but all I have at the moment.

Opened

Continuous-rotation servo from Micro Center. It was in their Arduino/robotics section. Also the drum. It is scrap Gator Board ($60 per 4x8' sheet). It's a very light foam with paper backing. I recessed the servo horn and supports to keep the box as thin as possible.

Started with some 1/8" ply and some 1" square, .05 wall aluminum tubing.

3 hours with a drill press...

...looks like this

...and this.

All bolted together.

Flipped over, looking at the bottom. These bars will be the electrical bus for all the ESC's and battery connectors. One side positive, one negative.

Added another piece of ply to velcro the battery to.

Painted and reassembled. The white arm will be the front, orange is the back.

A $2 salad bowl from WalMart makes it look like a UFO.

750 kv motors and Turnigy 25 amp speed controls.

All the power leads from the ESC's wired in.

An Orange receiver and a KKV2 multi-rotor control board.

And yes, it flies!! I had to include retracts, just for fun.

And here's a quick video, now that I have it fairly well sorted out. The $2 salad bowl has been replaced by a slightly larger $4 salad bowl. It took quite a few flights to get the control board dialed in just right. There are menus with several settings for the gyro gain on each axis. Tweak, fly, tweak, fly, etc etc.

The main issue now is that with 6 motors turning, it burns through a 4000 mah battery pack in about 4 minutes. I have some different props on order to experiment with that should help. It's set up to run two batteries in parallel, which will also help, but that means carrying more weight.

Very cool...it was for the longest time here just too hot to fly, now it is starting to cool off but was a little windy.

I do have a half built Tamiya sand scorcher on the kitchen table, but lack some paint to finish it off. Local hobby store ticked me off, so a tower order is in my future for some paint.

I need to get these two guys in the air....only thing I have flown lately...about a month ago is the Radion....the sail plane is fun, but I need to learn to take a lawn chair out with me....I get tired of standing.
