Update on the Super Cub after the BL mod. WOW! It should now be called the Supercharged Cub. WOT takeoff are under two feet and it will accelerate vetically. Cruising is done at 1/4 throttle. Scale take off is just over 1/4 throttle.

![]() Finished up my home built Quad today. My dumb ass reversed polarity on one of the ESC and toasted it quite well. I swapped it out with another brand knowing your supposed to keep like brands and sizes on a quad, but what the hell. Had a bit of trouble arming the board but after a YouTube video and a little fiddling it was up and running. I can't believe how relatively easy it is to build and fly. More or less flew fine first try. Flight times are not bad either. 5 min out of a 2200 3 cell. 7 with 2 1500's in Parallel. 5 with 2 1300's in Parallel. With more to go, I didn't push it. Probably 8 hours building it and $150.00 in materials not including receiver and LiPo's...... I really like the cobbled up contraption. |

it speeds them up a bit and GREATLY increases the roll rate. (same for planes with too much wing like four star's)
to put this into perspective. if you clip a wing bay (sometimes two) out of a cub, you have basically created a Citabria. a high-wing aerobatic plane (citabria is airabatics spelled backwards :p ) |

![]() __ Clip Wing Cub __ AC Champ next to full-wing J-3 Cub a little hard to tell, but the full-size cub wing is shorter than the other three. clip wings on huge wing area floaty planes = funner :) if more fun is what you're shooting for. |

The Mustang that crashed at the Reno airshow had clipped wings. Although it seems maybe your lift goes away from design, the racing mustangs lost a lot of weight not carrying non essentials, like machine guns.

Here's a heads-up for anyone scratch building these multi-rotors: A couple pages back I posted a few pics of my hexcopter I just built. I used 1" square aluminum tubing for the frame, and drilled them full of holes to try to save weight. It flew fine, but it was just too heavy. I did a bunch of searching online for carbon fiber tubing, but everything I found was too expensive. I didn't want to spend $300 or more to save a few ounces. Then I came across this at Hobby King: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbycity/s...dProduct=27134 Carbon fiber tail booms for a TRex 600. About 24" long, 7/8" diameter, for $5.50 each!!! I ordered up 8 of them and rebuilt my frame, plus I have a couple of spares. The only thing is they'll need to be painted unless you happen to like the camo print they come with. I took at least half a pound out of my frame, which added a good 2-1/2 minutes of flight time, along with better handling and more weight carrying capacity for cameras.

No, not really any need. As is, even without ailerons, it will just about turn on a wing tip so I will leave as the simply and fun to fly bird she is.
I have, however, been eyeing this - http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=17628

Yea I can see the addictive part. My board is the cheap kk board ($11.00), My head was spinning researching what gear to get. I decided to go low end, build it and see why happened. I really expected a complete PITA with the whole thing, but viola we have flight! For now flights have been under 20' getting used to it and has been quite windy. I'll take it out ASAP to an open area and get some height. So many electrical connections on this thing, hope my soldering holds up. Thanks for the tip on the Carbon, I have used some but mostly in small spars for foamies. Well trying to mount my GoPro......the madness continues. |

Just ordered a factory-refurbished Associated SC8e short course 4x4 truck, RTR. I finally live somewhere with room to roam and set up a decent track, so that helped sway me. 1/8th scale may be a bit large for the space in mind, so it may be that I step down to 1/18th again soon ... we'll see.
The nitros I've owned in the past were finicky and never ran well. I figured I'd give it a whirl with the latest gen electrics. Never owned Associated products before ... looking fwd to the experience.

This was long before Horizon hobby and thunder tiger The cars are just great and I still have my gold tub RC10...and my T2. It has been MANY years away from a track and racing....thought about it a few years ago...whenever the slash first came out. Went up with the old B2, the gold tub and the slash. It was just not the same....perhaps I changed....perhaps the people changed...don't know. Now I just play in the back yard.

I've been busy collecting lately
![]() I went to the hobby shop and walked away with a Blade Nano CPX. Awesome heli! I then went to another shop on Sunday. I needed another small brushless foamy. But, I walked away with the E-Flite Hyper Taxi (VTOL cone-shaped thing with AS3X technology). Then, on Tuesday I put a hold on the new E-Flite Edge 540QQ. Ugh, my wallet needs a break. My Blade mCPX V1 with lengthened boom and V2 tailrotor is for sale if anyone is interested! Not my pics... Weird, I haven't taken any of my new toys yet. ![]() ![]()
