Is it a good idea to drain your engine oil before welding on your frame?

That was HappyRiding's bike (the ST1300) after an HD guy fixated on her and tried to take his own leg off on her left footpeg. Thank goodness HappyRiding was (mostly) ok. As I recall, it was on US 421 near
