Must be hitting close to home. I owned a Buell, everybody's favorite joke was, "your bike is leaking." After I went to go look... "NOT FUNNY!!!" And yeah, I spent as much time chasing oil leaks as any other maintenance. But how 'bout them valve adjustments and TB/Carb syncs.

interesting; i own a '95 buell s2; i have owned it since '98. i got it w/8k on it; it has ~45k now. i had the 101hp/84ft-lbs engine bits installed when i bought it. it's been quite reliable, and doesn't leak. is this not normal?

The leaking oil was about the only thing keeping the Midas muffler from rusting out completely. I loved the bike, and it was reasonably reliable, but...

I don't take them personal. But can it truly be called a joke when it is based on the AMF Trouble Head (Shovel Head) that hasn't been used for almost 30 years?

It was true LONG AGO but it is no longer a joke if it is just outdated parroted Bullshit.

It is like "Don't use the front brake, you'll go over the handlebars"

Or: "Had to Lay 'er down to avoid a crash"

The last I remember about leaks was the first Evos, and they had cylinder base gasket problems IIRC.

All of the old twins with tin primary covers were MEANT to drip because the engine breather lubed the primary chain and the excess went out a hole in the bottom of the case.

H-D wasn't the only make that got bad press for oil leaks. Same went for Brit bikes, but modern sealants and careful assembly will work wonders for all of them. My Triumph doesn't leak a drop.

My 67 Bonnie and 68 Tiger have wet the floor in my garage like a dog on a fire hydrant. My '07 Bonnie was supposed to be the leak-free Triumph. One pebble on the oil cooler, and it sprayed oil everywhere, which all dripped down to the concrete when parked. I don't have good luck with Triumphs not leaking, but I sure do love them.
